Well folks, quick question here knowing the response will be quick.
I just purchased the above suv with 200km. Just finished my last free oil change from dealership with 21000km on the clock. Knowing now that I'm on the hook now for oil and filter, I know I'll be using pure one filters.
It is a 3.5L V6 running with 2 babyseats in the back (driving style), this one is staying for the long haul (no regrets with purchase) may decide later to tow a boat.
A little long winded, what oil folks should i look at????
5-20 is the recomm. oil. Thanks

It's all a matter of preference. Most motor oils work. If you are changing at the recommended interval (3-5000 miles), then any conventional will work. And if you don't have a brand preference. Motorcraft 5w20 is inexpensive and a great bargain at Walmart.

5W-20 or 0W-20 as has already been mentioned will do well for your car. Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20 is good, as well as any name brand 5W-20 really. Any API SM Energy Conserving motor oil will be good in your engine, really. Synthetic 5W-20's will last longer between oil changes, but if I was you, I'd dump in the Motorcraft blend 5W-20 and use the excellent PureONE filter as you've already found. Your Toyota will almost certainly run a very long time without any oil-related failures. You could spend a lot more money and not get any discernible benefits, so I would stick with what's relatively inexpensive and meets the Toyota specification.

You are getting some bad advice on viscosity. Look at your owners manual and the oil cap. Your 2GR-FE 3.5L V6 calls for 5W30 oil. That is what I use in mine. The crankcase is 6 plus quarts of oil.

Conventional oil is fine under normal conditions ......... but when you tow a trailer, synthetic is a good bet. I use Pennzoil conventional 5w30 in my 09 Camry and the Car uses ZERO oil between changes and gets 36 mpg hiway at 65-70 and 33 mpg at 75-80. Also, that engine has very little blowby so the oil looks clean even when its time to change it.

Also. Check your build date on the door jam. All 2GR-FE engines built before 04-08 have been recalled due to a faulty rubber oil line that can rupture or leak causing a complete loss of engine oil and a seized engine. Your dealer can run the VIN to see if the oil line has been replaced at no charge. If not - have it replaced immediately. The customer service campaign is good through March 2013 - unlimited mileage.

I agree with Paul3637. We have two 2008 RAV4's with the 3.5l V-6, both call for 5W30 period. The oil line dilema can lead to a fried engine easily if not corrected. One of ours required the new line the other did not. Keep in mind that this engine uses a canister style filter and the Toyota filters are quite cheap and a guaranteed fit. They also come with the correct o rings and a tool to drain the canister prior to changing the filter element.

2 years ago a friend of mine had a 2008 Highlander loaner car. As a good BITOG'er I read the owners manual. It mentioned the recommended oil was 5W-20 with 5w30 recommended for towing, high speed driving or when heavily loaded. The oil cap said 5W-20. My 2008 Sienna mentions only 5w30. I use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in mine and it's happy.

Also, you can get great deals on OEM oil filters on Ebay.
