4. I drive like a grandma for the most part, under 1/3 of redline most days. Sometimes spirited, driving like twice a month for less than 10 miles.
5. 10 mile drive one way 40% city/60% highway.
6. Most other VQ35DE's have oil consumption problem. Mine currently has none.

I want a 6 month service life, with high protection. I am currently been using Midas for my oil, but last time I changed it to Royal Purple full Syn. Just wanted some input. I used an article discussing the Shear film strength of oils to show the oils quality. And RP had the highest PSI of pressure before any mark was left on the metal. Although further reading has led me to question if RP fits my bill, since certain oils lose there protective advantages over time due to the low service life they are designed for. And was concerned that RP was not designed for a long service life like I am expecting.

RP might not be cost effective as pennzoil platinum or ultra would probably do more for less money. Quaker State Ultimate Durability works well and Menards runs a rebate of 1.99 qt after and has great noack protection too. I honestly think Quaker State Ultimate Durability is very hard to beat for what it is and its price.

There is nothing wrong with RP. It cant be bought as cheap as some can be at walmart, but its certainly of high quality. Any 5w30 synthetic is adequate. I've heard the V6 VQ engines are a little hard on oil, so some people run 0w40 mobil 1 as its a bit thicker at operating temp than most OTS 5W30's.

The problem here isn't your service life -- 6 months isn't very long unless you're driving a lot of miles in that time. The problem is that you used an article based on an utterly irrelevant testing method to pick your oil.

Do a search for that article here and you'll find how badly it's been discredited.

Royal Purple is probably fine. At the same time, you're probably overpaying in a big way -- there's no clear advantage over most decent off-the-shelf synthetics in 5w30 or 0w-30, some of which are available in 5-quart jugs.

Oil isn't designed for a low service life. OLM's can push oil change interval to 10k+ miles on conventional.

Any current spec full synthetic should have no problem with a 6month/7.5k interval. Location/weather can help with visc selection. Some VQs are tough on oil and going thicker is an option. Gather UOA data with your oil and go from there.

RP is a great oil.

Watch your oil level - many of the older VQs we see in for service go thru at least a quart in-between services.

Also, watch for leaks from the oil cooler o-ring and the valve covers.

We usually fill most of the ones that come in with SuperTech Synthetic 5W30 and recommend 5k intervals. The ones that request a premium product will get Amsoil Signature Series 5W30 at 7500 mile intervals.

I have a first gen VQ35; these engines are hard on oil. I change the oil every 6 mnths using whatever syn is on sale at Walmart. No consumption issues at 95K miles. Unless you start consuming oil excessively, stick to the spec'd 5W30.

Critic and mclasser have it right. Stick to shorter OCI with this engine (4,000 miles). Any oil conventional or synthetic will be fine. My 2004 Quest only burned a quart of oil if I extended the OCI to more than 5,000 miles. Conventional or synthetic didn't seem to matter.
