my cousin will be using my uncles tundra, which has 247,700 miles, to haul some furniture this afternoon. checked the oil for her a while ago, its low, exactly on the low mark. i dont know if my uncle uses 5W30 0r 10W30 in it, and it doesnt pay to ask him cause i know he wont remember. so will it hurt if i add a quart of either 5W30 or 10W30? i cringed when i saw that he had a fram OCOD on it, i guess he just buys whatever because last time he had a napa proselect on it lol.

......but just use a half quart.

Yep, just add enough to bring it to the full mark, a full quart might be too much.

i knew it was 5W30, but my uncle is careless and doesnt really pay attention to things like that. i mean, he has a john deere ZTR that is 4 years old and hes never changed the oil, just adds oil. i dont know if he just doesnt know how to maintain things or he just doesnt care. i put half a quart of 10W30 pennzoil that he has in his shed in the truck and it brought it halfway between low and full mark. i know it isnt 5W30 but its within a safe range now.

yep original owner. he changes the oil himself and all ,but i bet he goes longer oci's than hes supposed to, and probably just puts the cheapest oil and filters he can get.i find it funny the drain bolt isnt rounded off, cause the tools he owns are very few and he goes by the term "whatever works" lol. the 14mm bolt has likely seen a 9/16th socket more than once. when i cranked up the truck this morning i noticed some smoke pass towards the front of the truck, so i went to the back of the truck, it smoked white for about 5-10 seconds then cleared up. should i recommend he switch to a 10W30 high mileage oil such as Penzoil high mileage?
