$20 budget oil choice.

High mileage oils contain additional seal swellers. There are those that say the seal will only absorb as much as it needs - but I find that uncompelling. A seal is a composite. Changing what it has absorbed changes the composite. So I am in the camp of "if it aint broke don't fix it".

If I did have a leaky main seal I would definitely try a High Mileage oil.
Do you think those extra seal swellers can cause issues down the line?

I am not the seal designer so nothing is certain. But assuming it did swell the seal more than was needed to keep the oil in, then yes that would wear the mating surface of the seal out faster. Again, I don't know - but if you don't need the extra esters, why tempt fate.

Now I am sure someone here will tell us they have been using High Mileage oil for however many years without issue. But anecdotal or not - I don't need it so I don't need it.

Btw, I was at a local Walmart today and the most expensive oil there was Valvoline Restore and Protect (if we exclude Royal Purple and such) $30 for 5qt. All other oils were less expensive and the Castrol Edge (incl. the EP) was discounted at $25. ST was a bit below $20 and Quaker State was a bit over.

So, if you want to save some money Quaker State will be the best option of those three, but look for promo prices too because at Walmart Castrol and Mobil 1 may be discounted often.

Update

Went to Walmart Pick up 6 jug of Quaker State Synthetic ( I think this will be my cheap oil choice and second is super tech 20k . Enough for oil change for 5 vehicles of my family, and I was thinking going to autozone for STP oil filter , but then I was being lazy so I grap 5 Fram EG ( I sure miss this grip on oil filter ) tomorrow I will tackle 5 oil change all at once, I’m sure it will be just fine for 6 month OCI.

For the dude above want send $5. I did all 5 family vehicles for FREE, just try to save much as I can.

For my Lexus and Cobra always Mobil 1 🤣 . I want best stuff.

I have never had a High Mileage oil stop a leak.
Tried valvoline, mobil 1,supertech QS no luck they still leak.
I run it in 3 vehicles just don't want to go back now thinking it might leak more.

If you still have the receipt you can submit it to Quaker State for the $10 rebate. I think up to 2 claims are allowed, but not sure if they have to be separate or can be bundled together. Either way that is $10 or $20 you’ll get back. Only takes a few minutes to do.

Any idea for this promotion if you can submit two separate receipts?

I bought one 5qt already, if I can qualify for the rebate I'll buy another for net ~$10

Do you prefer a high mileage oil, extended drain oil, or don't care?
