$2 VS. $12> OPINIONS!

I've come to the conclusion that a $12 filter isn't $9 better than a $3 filter. It's Motorcrafts for my Fords and AC's for my Chevy van, especially since the local NAPA store moved.

Uh, that would be because the Bosch USA aftermarket filters are made by Champion Labs, which also makes the WalMart filters and many of the AC-Delcos.

Personally I'm buying Baldwin or Wix filters these days.

I think Oil Filter Study showed the Doanldson filter to flow very, very well, but its filtration ability seemed to be a the lower end.

I just buy Baldwin filters in discount quantities and otherwise "fuhgeddaboutit". At least I know who makes it and know that it is quite good.

You probably can't go wrong with either end of the price range as long as you change your oil & filter according to the mfg. specifications. I feel better using a OEM filter or a so called premium made filter.

The way I feel about it is if you have 3000 oci, then go with a Purolator Plus, AC Delco or Wal-mart ST. If you are using Synthetic oil and 6-8K oci's, then go with the PureOne, Wix, or NAPA Gold.

The filters I cut apart did not have a bypass valve, nor do any filter I use. IMO an engine mounted bypass valve is best.

What Baldwin filter do you run? Does it appear the same as in the thread "Baldwin B31 defect?".

I very much prefer the Wix-style bypass valve at the threaded end of the filter. Less chance of washing any crap back into the engine.

IMO, $12.00 for a filter is crazy unless you've got specialized racing application. Plenty of excellent, moderate cost options; Motorcraft, Wix, Hastings, Purolator, et all.

The way to tell how good the filters are would be a particle anaylsis . The synthetic media's forte is long life . Bob's oil filter and Grease's are part of the picture. Which is the best filter is like which is the best oil or the syn vs, petro oil.When I think i got it down, Some new tidbit of information comes along and I am back to square one.
