The house we just bought came with the 2007 CC. It ran when we arrived but had issues starting...turned out the starter shaft was bent. Replaced it and it mostly fixed it but it still cranks hard hot sometimes ..looks like valves are probably out of adjustment. Kohler courage twin 23hp. Common problem along with the weak starter. So until I get the valves adjusted I'm using the old antique. I have to remember to close and open the fuel shutoff valve or it leaks it all onto the garage floor but otherwise it runs like new. I got the old girl from a guy I used to mow for when I did it as a side job. I also fixed it for him a couple times (despite my limited small engine knowl)..a battery, a starter and cleaning the ignition switch contacts (separate occasions over about 4-5 years). This old thing has been a tank. It came with the house he bought. Probably was at that house since 1981 when it was probably built.

I see why they left the MTD but that Cub Cadet looks in good shape. I'd like to see more pics of the Cutlass.

The CC is in good shape and appears well kept. They left it because it was left by the original owners when they sold it. Looks like oil changes were kept up at least.
Sadly the MTD may outlast it if the hydrostatic transmission fails...but it's a fairly flat property so it may last a while. I'm going to baby it since it does the lawn much faster than the old one (50" vs 38" cut).
I'm sure I've posted the Cutlass before...I've had it forever.

Here's another pic of the Cutlass and cub cadet and the new house.

Congratulations on the new house ! looks like a nice property with mature trees.
We had a early eighties mower from home hardware ( Canada ) that from memory was almost identical to your mtd except it was a 10 h.p tecumseh could not kill that mower the only issue i can remember was like you the carb would dump fuel and the little exhaust pipe broke off, brazed it back on never looked back until we sold it in around 2012

Thanks! I love the trees here! I'm spending a lot more time with yard work but I enjoy it.

I don't know what this was off of but someone a long time ago welded this on in place of the original muffler, with a custom side pipe. It's pretty loud, sounds like an airplane but I kind of prefer it over the Kohler v twin now. The sound definitely matches the looks. Good thing these are wide lots with farm fields all around me. Nobody will complain about the noise.

I would say thats a custom header with a cherry bomb lol..
on our mower it was like a snowblower muffler but bigger with the small pipe coming out in the same spot as yours.
