Like 427Z06 stated. #1 is Castrol GTX and #2 is Pennzoil. Pretty good without the VOAs. I'd defenitely go Pennzoil here but I also wonder if the rumor about GTX going to a new formulation with very large amounts of Calcium is true. I certainly haven't seen a OA that indicated so.

I'm not so sure it's suppose to have huge amounts, but more like it's the shiznitobiggitybizomb of Calcium additives. I guess time will tell.

Ah ...all calcium adds are not created equal

No, they aren't all the same. There are calcium sulfonate, calcium salicylate, and probably others I don't know about. There's overbased calcium and ???; I can't recall. I need to read more myself about it as you can tell. If you read the FAQ on Shell's Rotella website, they talk a little about this. They also talk about how calcium adds compare to magnesium adds. One member who works in the industry was in a debate with bruce381 a while back about GTX's supposedly great additive package. I couldn't decide what to make of it, but lean toward what bruce said because the other guy was saying a large percentage of the GTX's calcium remains in the engine so you don't see nearly the amount in the UOA that was in the VOA.

Why don't you mix them so you use both?

That way you get the best of both oils.
Or wait...maybe it's the worst of both oils...
Oh..my head hurts

Its was funny but , Bitogers or not, most of us are influenced by the marketing and by the color of the bottle.

See, sometimes , members of the board recommend and oil , and feel that they have to defend the brand .... and here they probably choose not to pick or promote their favorite brand...

Ok now the serious part :

And the winner is winner is................................................................................................427Z06

# 1 = Castrol
# 2 = Pennzoil

Thank *** we have the UOA to seperate the good from the weak.

It was fun while it lasted, but I really don't understand your comments

I think there was no totally wrong guess, maybe one half-wrong. Most of the thread was a logical BiTOG discussion, a VOA, etc. No one really even said one of those two brands sucked. Maybe I'm missing some controversy or something.

I'd be picking oil #2. Much better flash point. Thus it should be a cleaner oil than the former.

Pabs...it may be that Engwish is not his primary language...see where he's from. As you already know, sometimes humor doesn't translate well.

Pablo let me try again

Nobody was wrong in their choice and I dont care what they choose. My point is , take away the bottle and the name on it and many peoples , bitogers or not are going to loose their reference.

By looking at the spec. some pro-Castrol or Pennzoil probably hesitate to recommend their favorite brand .

The bottles means a lot, even at bobistheoilguys.com

"Neither oil " isn't an answer that you get very often here especially when peoples knows the brand name.

I would take the chance to say that I have never seen that answer here before...

Perhaps not necessarily worded just like that (I've said "none of the above") ..but there are TONS of posts where someone asks ONLY for dino recommendation and ALL they get is offers of how perfect their life would be with a synth.

Essentially the same deal
