Quick background story...family member is selling this car to my younger brother (this is his first car). It was an out of state car and it arrived yesterday. It lived its entire life up north and was driven by a little old lady until 3ish years ago when it moved further south. I spent this morning cleaning and detailing it. For a northern car its pretty rust free, it has some on one of the rocker panels and a little under the hood. Other than that it seems good for a 24 year old car. The exterior paint isn't in the best shape, but again its ok for being 24. So here is what I did, vacuumed it out, wiped down all interior plastics with Meguiars Natural Shine protectant, cleaned leather seats with Lexol, conditioned leather seats with Lexol, laid down some new floor mats. Then I washed with some cheap Blue Coral wash/wax, cleaned rims/tires with some rim cleaner, dried, then put a layer of NuFinish liquid on the paint, and did the windows with Meguiars Ultimate Spray Wax. Overall its in better shape than it was before and I am happy with that. Planning on having the coolant flushed (it has some crud in it, plus it looks like Dexcool), and I want to have the transmission fluid changed, its light brown

. As far as that goes, would a simple pan drop replace enough fluid to make it worth it? Or should it be "flushed". Thanks for viewing!

Nice looking car! I would do a pan drop and then next oil change just do a drain and fill if it has a drain plug? Maybe some lube guard red?

Agreed.

Interior on the other hand...

Are you saying a tape player, bench seat and column shifter are outdated?

That car does still looks good today. Probably as comfortable as driving your sofa down the road too.

I would do a pan drop & filter change then a drain & fill for the next few oil changes. Service that cooling system asap & change all other fluids! Good luck!

Yeah, it's just as ugly now as it was when new.

greg, if the fluid is brown(ish), I would do a complete fluid exchange. If that's not practical, at least a pan drop and install a drain plug for future drain & fills.

Just the whole dash design looks like a 1960s am/fm radio.

All I'm saying is that the body aged well, and was pretty modern back in the day. The interior on the other hand looked outdated the day it left the factory floor.

Everything is in the same place as the 60's, but it is a clean, simple layout. Lots of GM rectangles as would be expected for an interior of this era.

I don't think any American brand of this era had a better interior design. Exterior, maybe Pontiac Bonneville would be close, but not Oldsmobile.

Yes, the body has aged well. The interior may not look very modern but I dont mind at all. Its laid out well, everything makes since...and its in good condition. And DISHDUDE, it does! Its like riding on a cloud. You dont realize just how comfortable it it is until you go sit down in a different car. I went to go move my Accord and the seats felt like rocks! lol.

Lots of space in the front AND back seat for the young wipper snapper to make his best moves! I had one of those cars, loved it!

"Dynaride"

My dad had one of these before he got his Roadmaster.
These cars were awesome. Trouble-free, and extremely comfortable on the long hauls.

Thanks everybody, I know my brother will enjoy this car, as will I! Does anybody know how to reset the "change oil soon" light? I read online that there is a button you press under the dash, but there are no buttons to be found.

Nice looking old machine.
The interior is a little dated and a little cheap looking, but no more so than that of a Mercedes or BMW of similar vintage.
The dash is simple and well organized, almost as though GM were looking at German cars when desgining the dash of this car.
Looks like a nice car.
I hope that your little brother appreciates it and doesn't wreck it.
If he does wreck it, it should protect him and his passengers well.
