1) Do you have any experience using Wilson Combat magazines? I have never used these but one of my concerns is how well the nylon follower holds up after engaging the slide stop over time.
2) Which magazines have you used and your thoughts on each.

I have not had good luck with them, and I have seen other people's follower wear out from the slide stop. They didn't work well enough for me to get to that point.

Have been using Chip McCormick mags for years and have no problems with them. Steel followers as well.

The new generation of the "Cobramag" by Tripp research look to be interesting but $$$.
 
+2 for the Chip McCormick mags.

1911? Now you got my interest. +3 for Chip mags.

Gun Show mags. Check out what country they're made from. A lot of junk 7 rounders out there. Never tried Wilson.

Get McCormick mags they are well worth it.
 
McCormick are good as well as Wilson and tripp. My cdp magazines are wilson. Still runing fine after 10 years of use and no rebuild.

avg use 50 rounds a week thru 3 magazines.

I'd leave the surplus magazines in the box where you found them. Unless your just going to use them for range use only. A few years ago a [censored] load of reject 1911 surplus magazines hit the free market.

Does that CDP magazine use the nylon/plastic follower? If so, is it showing wear where it contacts the slide stop after all of those years? That's one of my concerns with the Wilson.

I bought some from gun shows as well as Cheaper than dirt. I have not had any issues with them. Not sure how they would hold up vs the factory mags because I only shoot my 1911's occasionally.

I have six Wilson combat mags for 45acp that I have used for three years with no problems. The follower does show a little wear but at this rate they should last another 5 or 6 years.
I also have some Kimber mags and they were a little rough at the start but I dis-assembled them and tumbled them for 24 hours in crushed walnut hulls. After cleaning and re-assembling they have worked fine. I would stick with major brand mags and forgo any foreign surplus stuff.
 
yep, my kimber mags are a bit tough to use sometimes... dont know why, they dont feed quite right...

Ill have to look into buying a mccormick mag or two for my kimber 1911.

Unfortunately I cant buy a mccormick mag for my Beretta 92... what gives???

Favorite nephew is now apprenticing under Mr. Bob Marvel near Lincoln NE. For those who don't know Marvel Custom Guns builds the worlds finest custom 1911s for carry,competition, or collection. Google them and see if ANY other custom builder will give the same accuracy and function warranty.

Back to subject, Joe says all out of package mags need tweaking for full potential, but if one must use unaltered then Wilson is best available. (Suprised the heck out of me!)

While opinionated, arogant, and superior, (why else would I love him like a son) this guy is well on the way to being one of the best 1911 authoritys around, And if he hasn't got the answer, Bill Wilson,Jim Clark,Jerry Mickulek(sp), and Chip McCormic are all on his speed dial list, when he's too stubborn to ask Bob Marvel.

Two interesting comments found on the Marvel site, 1) "In my opinion, most current 8 round .45 magazines can be unreliable. I do NOT recommend them for carry weapons." and 2) regarding the Wilson magazines, "May not lock back after last round." Actually there is another comment that I just saw: someone earlier mentioned that Tripp Research made excellent mags. From the Marvel website, "Tripp Research Steel/Polymer .45 Follower (Good replacement for Wilson follower, 7 rounds only)".
 
I'll go with how magazines function in my pistols over one's opinion of how they may not function.

Any magazine one must first test it. I think 10 years of use for me that the magazines will function just fine. YGMV.
