So, in the last week I bought 4 filters--all Wix, my new favorite. Well constructed, silicon anti-drainback, and good flow. So now my stash includes:

FL1A size:
1 Motorcraft
1 Maxlife
1 Wix

FL299 size (long version of FL1A)
2 Purolator
3 Wix

All these have the threaded end bypass valve.

Now I know my stash is small as some of you have been buying filters discount on the net by the case. Who's got the biggest filter stash?

I had 27 filters until I sold twelve of them on eBay. Not a huge stash, but bigger than I needed. I figured I wouldn't trust them 5 years from now wneh I got to the last one.

Hey, maybe I could buy stock in Wix's parent company (and Valvoline as well).

One benefit is that because Wix appears to be switching to black paint on their filters, I have three white filters, which are a whole lot easier to see if there is oil dripping down them than with the black.

I had a stash of 30 oil filters, but I've about used them all up. I do 3k mile OCI's and my Honda and Hyundai use the same filter. I bought 30 of them because I cleared out the inventory of M-30 filters at all the local Meijer stores a couple of years ago. They are relabeled Purolator Premium Plus filters, and they were on clearance for $1 each.

I'm sure someone has me beat, but I have a dozen grey M1 204 for my old Mopars. $1.97 each, five Pep Boys Purolators for the "beater" Suburban at .69 each, six Mobil 254's Arvin Meritor (Purolator) equal of the FL1A for .97 each, all from a local store that buys surplus from convenience market resets. Also about a dozen WIX filters (oil, air and trans)for the JD & Honda tractor(s), a pair of Cummins Dodges, the Intrepid, Taurus, and daughter's Maxima from Filter1

From the surplus store I also get a lot of oil. Usually M1 (engine and trans) for $2.97 qt. and Ursa diesel for .97 qt. as well as type F and +3 transmission fluid for the MOPARS @.97 Probably about eight cases total. Last but not least a 5 gal pail of 80W90 gear oil $19.97

I don't stock up on oil filters, oil yes. Oil can be used in different vehicles but if you have a stock pile of one particular filter for one car and something happens to that car (collision, theft or you just want something else) then you either get a car that uses that filter or you have to go through the hassle of trying to exchange them.

I've entered a whole new realm. I thought I was doing well buying 5 quarts of my favorite oil on sale 2-weeks prior to the oil change.

I seen that I will need to step it up a notch or two if I want to keep hanging around this website!

I'm real lucky when it comes to filters. All of the entire fleet uses FL1A relatives/clones. My son's Neon spec's a PH3614 size. My daughter's Taurus a FL400S. The minivan gets a PH16 ..as do all the jeeps (two TJ's and a Chrokee).

They can all use PH16/FL300 or PH8A/FL1A size filters. So I stock about a half dozen of both.

Oh yeah Paul, filters are what you need.

And when I get enough filters I should stock up on a few extra dip sticks. After all, the dip stick may wear out with as much as I have been checking the oil. And maybe a few extra drain plugs too.

BTW my whole fleet takes FL1A size and two of the three can run the FL299s. I think I could fit a FL299 on the Aerostar 3.0 (specs FL400 and running FL1A) but it would get within about 1/4 inch or so of the exhaust pipe--maybe not so good.

Plus if you can see the oil filter from the engine compartment, alot of people like to right down the mileage on the filter with a Sharpie when they installed it.

Thats what I did when I had my 5.0 Mustang.

I have 13 filters in my collection:
6 Purolator Premium Plus
2 Purolator PureOne
3 Proline
1 Wix
1 SuperTech
