'16 Big Turbo Golf R Castrol 0w40 ~3k miles

concerning to me as well. Don't know how much the new turbo going on about 900 miles into that 3k sample would impact the # but I can't imagine very much
*Sorry for bumpin an old thread.*

I would run another UOA before drawing any conclusions on wear. The way I like to look at UOAs is to see how the oil holds up with viscosity, fuel contamination and flashpoint. If wear is too high, increase grade or change formulation to find something the engine "likes."

If the ambient air you are compressing is more or less dense to begin with, you'll get a difference on the back end as well.
Get a Density Altitude meter (like a Kestral) and start keeping notes on what it says vs what your MAF counts are...you'll find that when the Kestral says you have a low DA, you'll have higher MAF counts. Obviously the MAF count is the raw incoming air.

I sold the car back in March 2023 so its long gone.

And we were all waiting for the next UOA. Another incomplete data stream on BITOG. You deserve a fine.

Did you buy something interesting after you sold it? Do tell…

Ha! Probably best to reference this 8 page thread where I posted all my UOAs when my old R was on the bigger turbo and E85 —-> https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/t...ning-ethanol-blend.336456/page-8#post-6354241

As for your second question I should preface this by saying these are 2nd fun cars. 85-90% of driving time is canyon carving and backroads during the nicer weather months here in CO. While I loved my old R and it was blazingly fast (especially in straight line) I got a bit bored. It was just too easy and it was a DSG tranny. I drove it in “manual” mode 99% of the time but it’s obviously not the same as a true manual. I also missed RWD. I always wanted a f87 m2 comp but wasn’t willing to pay the insane covid pricing for a few years so I held on to my R longer than I thought I would. Well finally in early 2023 I made my move..sold the R and picked up a 19k miles manual 2020. The R would destroy my m2 in a straight line and is the more practical choice but to me the m2 is better everywhere else. In typical fashion for me it hasn’t remained stock but I’m not going as nuts as I did on my R. It has a mild tune, short shift kit, camber plates, midpipe & exhaust. The only thing additional I’m adding is some mcs coilovers at some point. Until my kids are out of the house and college is paid for this car is a keeper. Nothing out there interests me at the price point. The level up for me from here (like for so many) is probably going to be a 991.2 GT3…manual of course. Until then this little beast will keep me more than happy!

Fun! What canyon road were you driving?

Nice car! Your fine is hereby waived.

Boy, I wouldn’t go back to that road and go fast again. Lots of limited sight lines. Be careful.

these are always dawn patrol runs so in this case what you are seeing is just before 6am in the Summer on the weekend. This is a little deeper into that road than I typically go but I was playing follow the leader with that m3 in this particular case so went with the pace. The 20 miles+ above this section are 100% non residential. The very end of this vid is where I typically turn around and return home, which is a little bit before the vid I posted the other day.
