Living on the "emeritus dole". Ever see some miserable person who can do no wrong, gets paid well, yet has pretty much an easy job? It's a position for some "league of distinguished gentlemen's" cousin or uncle ..or otherwise worthless person that a pal is taking off your hands as a favor.

The person doesn't have to be worthless, but it's a "paid retirement that you show up for".

It's the lower echelon of the annual awards banquet that they have for the boards of directors.

Some protected species, with the right extra curricular activities can be elevated way above their status, just because they know who to know.

We had a manager years ago, who was an utter incompetent, worse than that, he was dangerous. I asked another manager one day why he rose so high, and was told that they had to keep promoting him until there were enough good people between him and the plant so that he could do no real damage...Eventually retired a couple of years early, with a massive golden handshake.

Given more time and exposure, it seems more of the League of Distinguished Gentlemen in action.

I'm sure "The League" has a public service chapter.

If you step back a bit, it almost looks like intramural sports with the players donning different color shirts.

They couldn't find an excuse to lay her off, because people who worked under her ends up self manage and get the work done, skipping her and go directly to her bosses, it also helps that the company was extremely successful and everyone is making money. aka she got lucky.

It took them years to figure out that he wasn't in meetings all day and that it ended up making those other officer's look bad, as they were sleeping at their desks.

All I know is the more Taxes they collect the more government jobs created, and the less the people who make stuff and pay taxes actually see returned. Government only grows.

did the guy get put in prison?

No explanation or excuse for such a thing as this happening is acceptable. We're talking 12 years here.

End of story

To compare this to the same thing happening in the private sector is specious. That's a shareholder issue not a taxpayer issue.

This reminds me of Fight Club.

I have a better solution. You keep me on the payroll as an outside consultant and in exchange for my salary, my job will be never to tell people these things that I know. I don't even have to come into the office, I can do this job from home.

I've been actively looking for this kind of job for the last few years. It's only a matter of time.
