2007 Elantra, 2.0 I4, 150,000 miles. Manual states 5W-20 or 5W-30 for all temps and that 10W-30 can be used above 0F.

Has anyone had any problem with using 10W-30? I'm switching to synthetic and am going to use Valvoline Maxlife Full Syn as well as 10W-30 to minimize the possibility of leaks.

Would you use 5W-30 or 10W-30?

Also the 10W-30 has 7.8% Noack loss, and the 5W has 9.3%

Do you understand what the winter rating (W) means? Looking back at some of your previous posts I see a lot of the same kind of question.

What are you asking?

The 10w-30 will be fine. I've used it in a 1.6 Rio that gives the same weight options. The 10 will be slightly thicker on startups, but for summer use the 5 vs 10 will be likely be unnoticeable. In Tennessee you would probably be fine with 10w-30 year round. As you mention anything above 0F is ok.

Keep in mind that in certain cases a 10w-30 can still be thinner than a 5w-30 when fully warmed up. Mobil 1 for example, the plane ole M1 synthetic 10w-30 is thinner than the 5w-30 at full operating temperature. That is the 10w-30 I like in our Kia.

I plan on getting our Rio to a 10w-30 summer 5w-30 winter routine. If it makes you feel any better, you could always mix the 5w-30 and 10w-30 as well.

The 10W-30 has less Noack loss and slightly higher HTHS, so would you use it over the 5W-30?

Also some people freak out about using 10W-30 when it says 5W-20 on the cap so I was making sure it was completely safe

I used 10W40, Synblend (oil sale deal) and Motor Honey in a '04 Elantra.
In Winter.
Nothing happened. I had a 35 miles one-way commute. In Chicago area traffic. 1-1.5 hours.
I would be more worried about battery (seem to eat batteries at 4 years mark), good tires (TN rain and dry), good wipers, AC (TN humidity) and lightbulbs. And T-Belt changed.

...

(did not know better at the time; I thought I needed the Motor Honey when I went into an Autozone)

I have some 10w-30 in my Hyundai now (Delo XLE Syn-blend), athough it is the 3.3 V6, so not same motor.
Will be on a steady diet of 10w-30 for the next few years going through my stash of Synthetic 10w-30.

For my climate, 10w-30 is just fine year round. I used it in my '04 Elantra for a few changes, even did a UOA on it with good results.

Bought a used 2006 Elantra with 27000 miles. It now has 145000 miles and all I have ever used in it is 10w 30 conventional, whichever brand is on sale. 5000 mile change intervals.

Sounds like you have no leaks or consumption now. So, why switch to a HM oil if you don't need too??? The 10W is fine is TN no issues.

Well maybe like me he bought it cheap like I did PUP HM $14 a Jug and a rebate final cost $4 a Jug and HM never has hurt my Toyota. Oh just to let you know after using it and then stopping a few times I've never had a problem. But seriously you run what you like.

Today I put 10w-30 Chevron Supreme in my 2017 Elantra with the 2.0 when changing oil. Second time using it. It is my favorite oil in that engine. Quiet. That is compared to PUP 5w-20 and PP 5w-30.

It's hard to go wrong with CS. Chevron base stocks and an amazing add pack.
