10W-30 for hyundai elantra?

2007 Elantra, 2.0 I4, 150,000 miles. Manual states 5W-20 or 5w30 for all temps and that 10w30 can be used above 0F.

Has anyone had any problem with using 10w30? I'm switching to synthetic and am going to use Valvoline Maxlife Full Synthetic as well as 10w30 to minimize the possibility of leaks.

Would you use 5w30 or 10w30?

Also the 10w30 has 7.8% Noack loss, and the 5W has 9.3%

I think you will be fine especially in your area and climate. Valvoline blends good products

Do you understand what the winter rating (W) means? Looking back at some of your previous posts I see a lot of the same kind of question.

I think I have a general understanding in that 10W means it passes the pumping test at -25C, but it never hurts to learn more

The 10w30 will be fine. I've used it in a 1.6 Rio that gives the same weight options. The 10 will be slightly thicker on startups, but for summer use the 5 vs 10 will be likely be unnoticeable. In Tennessee you would probably be fine with 10w30 year round. As you mention anything above 0F is ok.

Keep in mind that in certain cases a 10w30 can still be thinner than a 5w30 when fully warmed up. Mobil 1 for example, the plane ole M1 synthetic 10w30 is thinner than the 5w30 at full operating temperature. That is the 10w30 I like in our Kia.

I plan on getting our Rio to a 10w30 summer 5w30 winter routine. If it makes you feel any better, you could always mix the 5w30 and 10w30 as well.

Also maxlife syn 10w30 has a slightly higher KV at 40C and 100C, higher HTHS (3.2 vs 3.1) and lower Noack (7.8 vs 9.3) than the 5w30

The 10w30 has less Noack loss and slightly higher HTHS, so would you use it over the 5w30?

Also some people freak out about using 10w30 when it says 5W-20 on the cap so I was making sure it was completely safe

I used 10W40, Synblend (oil sale deal) and Motor Honey in a '04 Elantra.
In Winter.
Nothing happened. I had a 35 miles one-way commute. In Chicago area traffic. 1-1.5 hours.
I would be more worried about battery (seem to eat batteries at 4 years mark), good tires (TN rain and dry), good wipers, AC (TN humidity) and lightbulbs. And T-Belt changed.

I have some 10w30 in my Hyundai now (Delo XLE Syn-blend), athough it is the 3.3 V6, so not same motor.
Will be on a steady diet of 10w30 for the next few years going through my stash of Synthetic 10w30.

For my climate, 10w30 is just fine year round. I used it in my '04 Elantra for a few changes, even did a used oil analysis on it with good results.

I drove a Hyundai 1.6L for 100,000 mi.
Used 5w20, 0w30, 5w30, and 10w30.
It ran the best with Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30.

Bought a used 2006 Elantra with 27000 miles. It now has 145000 miles and all I have ever used in it is 10w30 conventional, whichever brand is on sale. 5000 mile change intervals.

Sounds like you have no leaks or consumption now. So, why switch to a High Mileage oil if you don't need too??? The 10W is fine is TN no issues.

Well maybe like me he bought it cheap like I did Pennzoil Ultra Platinum High Mileage $14 a Jug and a rebate final cost $4 a Jug and High Mileage never has hurt my Toyota. Oh just to let you know after using it and then stopping a few times I've never had a problem. But seriously you run what you like.

Today I put 10w30 Chevron Supreme in my 2017 Elantra with the 2.0 when changing oil. Second time using it. It is my favorite oil in that engine. Quiet. That is compared to Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w20 and Pennzoil Platinum 5w30.

It's hard to go wrong with CS. Chevron base stocks and an amazing add pack.
