My comments:

I drive the car about 80% city/20% highway and I

break out the brick foot on a daily basis. The

winter was pretty cold in NYC this year. I'd be

very satisfied with this report if it weren't for

the Sodium. It's been tracking upwards with

every sample. What's causing that? I don't

think I have a coolant leak or anything...wierd.

The Iron seems a little high as well, but I'm not

sure. Overall I think the oil held up pretty

well. Discuss. :)

Not quite sure what the columns mean, can you explain?

The iron numbers do not look at all excessive for 10k miles, especially with Mobil-1 which tends to produce slightly higher iron wear, and the winter operation you experienced.

The sodium could be due to good old fashioned road salt as well, especially in NYC.

Otherwise the results look good. I'd probably settle on an interval of 12k miles in your circumstances.

The columns are the OCIs that I've used for the past five oil changes with the leftmost one being the current 10,085 mile test.

It looks like the new formula M1 is not going to be as stable as the old SL formula. We see it getting thick over long intervals and with some engines. Not sure what is going on but Terry should have some good insite. Hopefully you can share this with us. Maybe the new EP is the way to go if you going past 6000 miles on this stuff. Maybe the lab is having some difficulty with viscosity? You show thick oil after 6000 miles also. I think it is a good report except for the viscosity.

With each UOA, the Sodium increases per mileage driven, could be road salt ingestion.

Also, any comments on the viscosity? It seems to have thickened out of 30WT range...

Mobil 1 5W-30 starts at 10.0 cSt, thickened to 67.5 SUS = 12.37 cSt, almost a 40 weight, 12.49 is 40 weight territory.
