After reading this thread, I'm starting to think the "haters" have a point here. If someone just says "I agree" to a post, you can't be sure if they even understand what they're responding to unless the post in question is REALLY simple. If that ambiguity exists, the response essentially is meaningless.

That's a bit different from what people have been saying here, but I think the spirit is the same. Further opinions welcome, as always...

Yup.

I guess we could install a "I mostly +1" ..or "I tend to +1" method of +1'ing.

..but your post caused me to ponder another form of poster. The "reinforcing disinformation +1'r". An insurgent +1'r, if you will.

I believe you have encapsulated the entirety of my objection. Without explication, '+1' or 'x2' or thumbsup is an ambiguous & useless post.

And there are a lot of people who put stock in how many posts so-and-so has to determine who 'knows' more or would be a more reliable source. And as we know from some of the most active posters (coff coff steviec coff

) sometimes they don't have anything of substance to add, they just want to chat.

SNR over '+1' is all I ask.

Yup.

I don't care what someone decides to post as long as it does not violate the TOS and in no way contradicts me. ;o)

I don't mind them. If I write something and nobody replies, I'm not sure if people agree or just have no opinion. Saying +1 gives encouragement to the poster.

>1< converging asymptotic agreement ?

+/- 1 give or take maybe ?

Exactry.

It's just the guy in the motley crowd yelling up a "Yeah!".

Do it if you like, at the expense of others thinking you just a (mindless) follower.

Posting " +1 " is okay, it means agreement and verification to the OP that he has the right answer. But I'm bothered when it's preceeded by a lengthy quote. Just more to skip over when reading a thread.

Is this a bad time to mention I'm known as the +1 member on a few other boards?

You can always add a extra comment to still keep it short and sweet.
