Can readily get the M1 0w40 but not the Toyota 0w20 for my upcoming oil change. What are other options for the 0w20 for the blend to give me similar results?

M1 0W-20
PP 0W-20
QSUD 0W-20
Honda/CP 0W-20
Redline 0W-20
Eneos 0W-20
Amsoil 0W-20 - 3 to choose from.

You mean you can't get the Toyota 0W-20 for a reasonable price because the oil itself is available from any Toyota/Lexus dealer?

The Idemitsu made Mazda or Mitsubishi 0W-20 would be a second choice but it generately isn't any cheaper than the Toyota oil.

Not many choices unless you want to pay. There is Castrol Edge w FST 0w20, but if you are mixing M1 0w40 I would mix it with M1 0w20. M1 0w20 is good oil with better cold specs and pump-ability than Castrol 0w20 SN. If you can find the Edge SM 0w20 than I would use that, it is an excellent oil with a high VI.

So any of these blended with the 0w40 will keep the VI high?

No just ENEOS in it's SM form or the Sustina 0W-20.
So you're choices are limited.

I have some M1 0W20 in 5 quart jugs, so I mixed 5/2 0W20/0W40 for the last oil change in my E430. The engine is quiet and throttle response is better than straight 0W40, also get good gas mileage too.

When I use up all M1 0W20, I'll try o get Toyota 0W20 if local dealer sells it at reasonable price.

Nearest Toyota dealer is about 40 minutes away. I probably could but if I could get something 5 minutes away then I'd be a little happier.

The way I understand it is:

a) The Toyota oil is made by EOM so no additive clash.
b) The Toyota oil is second only to Sustina for it's VI.

I'll be corrected if wrong.

You'll pass up a Toyota/Lexus dealer during your travels. Stop. Buy.

That Idemitsu made oil was discussed in the following post:
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2558929&page=1

The problem is they are now using the SN GF-5 version of the Idemitsu 0W-20 which only has a VI of 169 and no moly.

In the States the two remaining sources of the 197 VI, high moly SM GF-4 Idemitsu 0W-20 are the Mazda 0W-20 and Mitsubishi 0W-20, but make sure it's still the SM oil.

Even though I paid a little more per qt. I got mine from Euro Synthetic Oils/Matrix Synthetic oils.

Even though they explain why on their site, I did not like the fact that Sparktec REFUSES to pick up the phone, OR does NOT even have the courtesy/customer service chops to EVER answer voice mail inquiries. (I cannot stomach dealers/sellers who feel as though they are doing YOU a favor!!

Just seems VERY shady to me.

Despite everyone on here bragging how cheaply they procured this brew, the problem is that NOT all Toy/Lex dealers are willing to sell this oil (REGARDLESS of quantity) at a reasonable cost!

For the prices they get for the Toy stuff (around here at least), one might as well go with the superior VI Sustina brew.

dailydriver I like the Sustina 0W-20/RL 0W-40 blend.
A nice upgrade to the M1 0W-40 blend if you don't mind the higher cost. Your 2/4 ratio should net a HTHSV 3.5cP, 205 VI 0w30 oil. Reversing the ratio would net a 3.0cP, 215 VI 0W-30.

For those that don't like to mix brands a Sustina 0W-20/0w50 blend will acheive similar results at least in terms of VI.

Another oil to possibly include with any M1 0W-40 blend is the some M1 R 0w50 (HTHSV 4.1cP, VI 189, Moly 1,650 ppm, Phos 2,500 ppm) if you want to boost the Moly and Phos level of the blend for track use. I wouldn't use any more than 25/30%.
