yes 0w20 is recommended for my Tacoma. When the truck is full heated you can hear the thing tick like crazy but it's "normal" from what I have been told at the dealership.

Try Mobil 1 15w-50 next time and see if you still think that noise is normal.

It can make the difference between starting and not starting sometimes.

This is a critical point. A thick oil in cold conditions might flow enough to lubricate, but do you have enough starter and battery to overcome the cranking load? Shaft load increases linearly with viscosity, but of course viscosity is exponential with temperature.
