I am wondering has anybody run this in a kia besides the 5w20. I am just wondering because my 04 chevy colorado loved AFE 0w30 and ran much quieter on it. I am wondering if it would remedy loud cold starts on my kia. I saw running a search someone had run it in an elantra touring edition with a good UOA. In Arizona I know it doesn't get cold up here, but after some reading it seems that 0wxx seem to benefit both in cold starts and at operating temp. I currently commute 82 miles round trip which is mostly highway and do some short trip driving to run errands.

0wX is beneficial regardless of climate.

Will it remedy loud cold starts in your car? I can't answer that, but a good 0w20 or 0w30 with sufficiently high VI will protect better when cold, hot, and everything inbetween.

Only one way to know: try it and see.

Don't know about a Kia, but 0-20AFE(used it for 2 years now) is outstanding in both Duratechs. Last summer we had record high temps with many days in the 105 to 109 range. No problems with varnish or oil consumption even with a trip to Maine and another to Florida on the same oil change.

0W-20s are lighter than all dino 5W-20s and most synthetic 5W-20s and the lightest 0W-20's are the OEM oils made for Toyota and Mazda due to their ultra high 220 VIs.
These oils will also be lighter at normal operating temp's to what you're running now but dispite that we do have some good UOAs on some Hyundais running these very light oils.

If still want to give one of these high VI oils a try but still want to retain much the same hot operating viscosity that you have now I'd suggest adding a pint of something heavier like M1 0W-40. You'll have a 0W-20 with a VI over 210; still better than most other 0W-20's for the maximum benefit on start-up but with a little extra high temperature protection.

x2

What 5w20 are you running now? Since you're most certainly under warranty, fiddling with some different 5w20's would be a better approach IMO.

Are you using the OEM oil filters? Lots of complaints about aftermarket filters on KIA/Hyundai's.

I only use OEM filters after finding the TSB on here.

I am currently running Pennzoil Ultra 5w20 which I will run for a 7,500 mile OCI due to my mostly highway commute.

The Hyundai/KIA's are pretty well known for a little noise at cold start up. I do believe oils can make a difference though...our KIA has dealer installed QSGB in it right now and the start up noise is barely noticeable. I can't help but wonder if that's part of the reason why they promote Quaker State, it does seem to work well in their engines.

I'm not sticking with it though, I want a full syn, my first change will be gold bottle Castrol Edge. I will be keen to know if there is any difference.
