After mixing multiple oils from different companies, i think ive found a recipe that fits my needs. Its Caterham's blend, for a high performance 20/30 grade its the best.

Accord V6 has a 4.5qt sump. Spec'd for 5w-20. Car is raced during autocross and on the street frequently
1qt Mobil 1 0w-40
3.5qt TGMO 0w-20
Possibly 2oz of Redline Break-In additive

KV100 9.4cST KV40 43cST
KV0 258cST
HTHSV 2.87cP
VI 209

It has a high KV100/HTHS ratio, yet a super high VI. Cost per oil change $36-43. What should be the OCI on this blend with the racing?

Thoughts on the blend? How would this compare to Redline 0w-20 ($66 per oil change)?

Are you sure you want to come over to the dark side?

I got numbers a little different from yours but not enough to worry about. Very light 30, HTHS cut off is 2.9. Give it a try, not like it will kill your car.

I wanted a high VI oil, and wanted it a bit thicker for light racing usage. Considered Redline 5w-20, but the HTHS is 3.3 which is thicker than most 30 grades (not what i want). Name-brand 0w-20s have a low VI, but thicker. All the OEM 0w-20 have a high VI, but thinner. So i mixed these to get a high VI, with a thicker oil. But not quite as thick as a 30 grade.

Pointless exercise, as there are enough different oils available to find one that matches your requirements. If you mix up different base stocks and add packs there is no way of knowing if the final result will function as intended.

Find me an oil with the HTHS of 2.8-2.9 with a viscosity index of over 200, then ill use it.

Mixing 1qt Redline 0w-40 with 3.5qt Mazda 0w-20 moly
kv100 9.49
kv40 42.7
kv0 245
VI 215
HTHS 2.91
Likely around 700ppm moly with around 800-850ppm ZDDP.

Thoughts?

Only downside is, this mix costs about $9.44/qt.
Where the TGMO and M1 costs about $7/qt, but i would need to add the Break-In oil additive so about $8.qt.

The Redline oils have got those kind of figures for Moly and Zinc, they seem good for race applications, but not so good for long OCI's.

Exactly. However, Redline 0w-20 is too thin and 0w30 is too thick. Blending the two would give me a VI of around 177 and a HTHS of 2.92. Thats an option.

OR

I could get a similar additive package, same HTHS, but much higher VI by mixing Mazda and Redline. Do you see my side now?

Nonsense, even if in certain rare cases this turns out to be so; the downside is very limited and fairly unlikely. The upside is there, and not unlikely, though it probably is slight. Yet the expectation IMO is positive, so, I say go for it and tell us how it goes.

I like it. You're staying within the 20-weight range using two oils that have similar (Mobil-sourced) adpaks. I don't think you need the Redline additive, though. The 0w40 brings extra zddp to the party, and the TGMO has good Moly.

Safest mixing is with same brand and same type, I mixed Mobil 1 0W20 with Mobil 1 0W40 to use in E430. I will have a mix of Mobil 1 0W20 and 0W40 to use in S2000 too.

Mobil 1 0W20 in 5 quart jug is reasonable priced at Walmart for about $25, Mobil 1 0W40 was bought when it was on sale at Pep Boys for $29.99 for 5 quarts and Mobil 1 filter. So the cost of 5 mix quarts of Mobil 1 is about $30, Mobil 1 filter included.

So you guys like the Toyota/Mobil 1 or the Mazda/Redline mix

I really wana add the redline break-in to aid with the racing.

Mixing the two Redline oils makes more sense as their add packs and base stocks will be almost the same except for different levels of VI improvers, so no chance of some adverse chemistry.

^^^Yes, but the 0W-20 Red Line brings the V.I. of the mix WAYYY down.

A cooler, HIGH V.I. mix, albeit the MOST expensive one mentioned so far (and SURE to be heavily critiqued on here for mixing two completely different add packs/base stocks), is the Red Line 0W-40/Sustina 0W-20 blend.

I see you've taken advantage of something similar. That would jack my cost to $12.60/qt! DANG.

I may try that at some point if the Mazda/Redline posts a good used oil analysis. How have your Sustina and Redline worked out with the hard driving? Got a used oil analysis?

Nope, and even though I know that I should get a couple done, I would rather put that coin into the best oils/filters I can buy and then not even worry about used oil analysis.
(The EXORBITANTLY priced Millers Nanodrive Racing oil is next in line to try in the spring.

How often do you change this oil blend on your car with the hard miles?

I will push it close to 10K miles, BUT, that is with at least one, one-quart 'drain and top up' (or one quart drain/top up, along with an adjunct 1 quart from a filter replacement) during that OCI, especially during the fuel-diluting, low oil temp, winter OCIs.
