WILLIAM: Based on the wear metals, we'd say this oil has been in use about 6,000 miles or so, which is
what our universal averages for a Kia 3.8L V-6 are based on. That looks to be fairly accurate since most
metals were close to average. Aluminum read a little high, which is from pistons. Chrome is from rings and it
was just slightly elevated too, so maybe we're seeing some mild piston scuffing. Other metals look great, so
we doubt this is a serious concern, but we'll know more as trends develop. The oil was in good shape and
free of contaminants. Nice first report!

I thought aluminum seemed high too...that suggests to me it wants a thicker oil.

I know these are spec'd for 5w20 but I think the engine it saying something else IMO.

It'll run a looonnnggggg time either way though.

Going to try 5 w 30. Next oil. Change running mc 5 20. Now. Probably penzoil or Quaker state. Is it worth it going syn. I tow small skiff 2k max occasionally.

I believe that's a good plan. I'd bet aluminum will be lower if you do.

Syn is a good idea as long as you run decent intervals with it, from your 6k dino run I'd say that's not a problem for you and since you're towing anyway, why not? It sure won't hurt.
