    Long OCI

What is the point of going long on the OCI? Oil is still cheap as far as maintenance is concerned. I get it if it’s a lease vehicle. Follow mfg. if you own it, and plan on keeping it for 300k, it’s just not worth it especially with DI, turbo charged, and thin viscosity. You can say it’s a waste...

    Mobil 1 success

All brands have marketing to consumers and business. Castrol originally competed against M1 with their name Syntec. The rest including Castrol keep changing their names to market synthetic oil. Now M1. They’ve always stayed the same with their M1 marketing Always been Mobil 1 with the 1 in black...

    Brand Oil vs no brand

There’s brand Oil like M1, etc. there’s generic brand oil, then there’s boutique oil brands. They’re all designed to provide lubrication to moving mechanical parts. Now certain applications could benefit from higher end oils. Then we have peanut butter. Some like skippy, some like store brand...

    Conventional oil direct injection

I have 2 vehicles both direct injected. 1 is a 2015 Acura MDX 3.5L and the other is 2020 Acura RDX 2L Turbo. With direct injection, and all the issues that come with that. I currently use M1 0/40 in both. The MDX OCI is 5K. The RDX is every 3K. Driven spirtited daily. With Nissan GTR engineer...

    Pre-fill OF

How many people pre fill their OF before installing it? Both of my vehicles I do and both are vertical under the engine. I prefer not to have a dry start for a second or two. Both of my vehicle’s I prefill the filter with Redline 10/40. A little extra ZDDP also I like the bottle. Easy pour into a OF

    Redline D4 vs D6 vs DW I

I have a 2015 Acura MDX The trans requires Honda DW-1. As shown in a thread the viscosity of that is 6.95 @100c. Now Redline shows D4 as a replacement for HONDA ATF Z1. D4 has a viscosity of 7.5 @ 100c which is higher than Z1. Now D6 is lower than either one of the Z1 or DW 1. Redline shows D6...

    Honda DW-1, Honda Z1 Redline

Honda DW-1 viscosity is 6.93 same for the Z1. Redline D4 viscosity 7.5 Redline D6 viscosity 6.3 This is for a 2015 Acura MDX, calls for DW-1 What I don't like what redline says for use is D6. I don't like how the viscosity is slightly less than factory. I would prefer to match or slightly...

Waxed car vs non waxed vs mpg

I was wondering if anyone has tried this theory of increasing mpg by making sure vehicle is always clean and waxed. I noticed in my Accord, it seems like it has increased, but not yet actually run the calculations Myth busters said they saw an avg of 2mpg. My brother in law works for Boeing...

    Honda Europe oil recommendations.

This is a screenshot from Honda UK. Just proof that 0/20 in the US is sorely for CAFE. If you go back further, they still recommend ACEA A3. But a API SL. Wasn't SL way higher ZDDP levels in comparison to a standard 5/30?

    OCI- oil consumption

I own a 2012 Honda Accord 2.4L. 248k miles One thing I've noticed, and running either M1 euro 5/40 or Castrol euro 5/40 it's entire life, at 5k miles, it's 1k qt low, at 3k miles, it's full. So somewhere between the 3k and 5k it uses 1qt. I change it at 5k miles. I feel this is the point where...

    Motul xcess 5/40 Vs Castrol 0 40

Hello. My observation between these oils is not scientific, just my own use I have used both of these products in my 07 Acura MDX with a 3.7L. I must say I like the 5/40 better. Runs smoother, than the Castrol, in 5500 miles the Motul didn't burn a drop, the Castrol on the other hand 1/2qt in...

    Pp 5/30

I purchased our Acura MDX 3.7L. Used. The previous owner changed the oil every 5k with M1 5/20. She did this religiously she owned it from the time it was new until 99k miles. I've ran Castrol 0/40, PP 5/30 now PP 10/30. Awesome car. when I look inside the oil fill hole straight into the valve...

    Motul xcess shorted me.

I bought a 5L jug of motul xcess 5/40. That is equivalent to 1.37 gal, well I poured it into a 5qt jug, which is 1.25 gal. The motul jug didn't even completely fill the Pennzoil, 5qt jug. It is short by 1/2 qt of the fill line on the 5qt jug WTH

    Walmart and Valvoline

I went into Walmart this evening. I said to the clerk, not much oil selection. I said no Castrol 0/40 in 1qt bottles, noticed only a couple of M1 0/40. She said to me Walmart is getting ready to phase out Valvoline products, didn't know why, but said they don't sell. Walmart is going to sell...

    Proper oil viscosities.

I keep reading threads about what oil to use. I highly recommend to look for the owners manual in foreign countries. My Acura MDX 3.7L in the USA says use 5/20. That same engine is used in the Honda Legend in EU. The copy of the owners manual found online did not even list a 5/20. Listed was all...
