Seeking advice on how to handle partial oil changes

The rotary burns a bit of oil by design as well, right? Seems like I read somewhere about a quart per 1000-1500 miles. I'd feel good about changing dino oil every 3k. Heck, what am I saying? There's very little expense with dino, and that's a very nice new car. I'd drain and refill twice...

97 plymouth breeze: steering wheel shake at idle

Sounds like a front motor mount. Not sure about the cloud cars, but 1st-gen Neons have notoriously bad ones. Cheap and easy fix though.

    ST3600 cut open

When I changed my oil this weekend, the new ST3600 was a remarkably different filter than the old ST3600 I took off the truck. The filter was physically smaller, the steel used in the canister seemed thinner, and the filter was MUCH lighter. Is this the new ECORE design? It'll be my last ST...

Health care in California - we'll take care of you

Shows how out-of-touch California's legislators (of both parties) are with their state's problems. So everyone will be mandated to purchase their own health care... with what? Most of the uninsured don't purchase insurance because they can't afford it. "Let them eat cake," I guess. mr

    Big Brother?

Neither of these comments are relevant to the original post. Whimsey, there's nothing "touchy feely" about tracking kids' movements with RFID tags. Al, neither "bad guys" nor "liberal judges" made an appearance in the story. You guys see a liberal conspiracy in everything. mr

    Elantra owners: oil-advice needed.

I'd stick with the factory recommendation until the car is out of its lengthy warranty. You wouldn't want to give the dealer any ammunition against you if you have major engine issues We had a 2001 Elantra and it gave us quite a bit of trouble. Engine replaced at 17k for piston slap, cracked...

Is the 2005 Chevy Cavalier a solid car?

Sounds like a killer deal then. Add a set of good tires and some salvage yard Z24 swaybars, and you'd have a nifty little car. Have you considered a base single cab 4 cylinder Colorado? mr

tires, run them down or replace when worn?

So she'd rather drive through a CT winter on a set of worn tires than get a new set now for only the cost of installation? Penny wise, pound foolish imo. mr

    Worst Tires Ever?

The Goodyear RS-A's that were OEM on my Neon R/T coupe had bad dry traction AND lousy treadwear. By 23k miles they were toast. For the next set, I ran Yoko AVSi's and got 23k miles out of those before the heat-cycling turned them to bricks. With a couple more autocrosses and a couple of open...

    How much oil is enough?

Very interesting thread here. Wouldn't a good 5w-20 motor oil have a better detergent pack and thus be a better cleaner than ATF? mr

    Penzoil(?) 15W-40, 1940 mi, 95 F-150 4.9L

Heck, the fact that the truck even runs at 177k with that kind of history attests to the I6's toughness. Considering the neglect, the UOA numbers seem pretty spectacular. MR

    SuperTech HD 30, 11 hrs, B&S 18hp Twin cyl.

Interesting analysis. Seems like a lot of iron, but who knows? Do you have any idea how long the oil went on the previous change? Was the drain oil gray or glittery when you put the Supertech in? MR

    04 Chevy Colorado 3.5L I-5, Mobil 1 5w-30, 5000 miles

I'll be interested to hear what people have to say about that I-5 in the long term. Seems to me that any mileage gains would be offset by the amount you have to rev it. Odd decision on GM's part imo. M

    Considering "New" Impala. Advice?

It's not malice, but definitely a dishonest sales practice. When we bought my wife's Xterra, the first thing the salesman did was disappear for about 15 minutes, then return with a piece of paper with a monthly payment written on it. I instructed him that we wouldn't go any further until we...

    I'm switching

Take it from someone who changed M1 (with Fram filters!) every 3k through college. Buy Supertech, or score some free Maxlife, and spend the rest on beer. Your truck will last just as long and you'll have better stories. mr

Do ya'll just love to take a drive after an oil change

Th only thing a 15w50 can "add" is sluggishness - it's thick, thick compared to M1 5w30. Chances are you're just seeing placebo though. You guys must run a heck of a long OCI if "fresh" oil makes a difference in performance! mr
