i'll probably thicken this up a bit with some 20w-50 or something. lc and fp. bmw says no synth in this motor, but lots of guys use it with no problem. bmw's recommended oci is 6000 miles. i'm not real gentle either.

no question they are retro gimmicks. wagons and hatchbacks have been woefully unpopular, and these are vehicles that bust that niche somewhat. i wouldn't buy either.

actually, that's exacly what they are. the pt cruiser and the hhr are station wagons for people who wouldn't own a wagon otherwise. you could throw in the scion xb and the dodge caliber as well.

the honda fit has quite a bit more interior space than the civic. the "magic" seats provide a lot of interior flexibility as well. gas mileage for the fit has been better than (the new) epa estimates as well.

i second this. easy to get, reasonably priced, and easy application and removal. it has a nice appearance and provides good protection. i use it a couple times a year (with applications of mothers synwax the rest of the time.)

outside of the mobil1 i used to use, my viscosity has always been slightly out of grade. i usually had higher iron with the mobil1, so i started trying out other oils.

i'm not that picky any more. insolubles have always been in that range (even after some autorx), so i just live with it.

forgot to ask for tbn. i use lube control and fuel power.

oil analysis. mobil1 was generally spent at 7500 miles. (there is at least one more uoa that fell off the page there.) if you search in the uoa section you can find mine.

in my application, dino is more cost effective and wear is less per mile. i can go 5000 miles with dino, and 7500 with synth. wear metals are substantially less with the dino at this distance and it's obviously more cost effective. i'm running blend right now just to see how it goes. i do use...

if you get one of those hose adapters with the multiple spray settings, the "soaker" setting will do pretty much the same thing.

while this started out as a joke, i do have an answer for this question. bmw says not to use synthetic oil in the f650 series. so i'm using amsoil synthetic motorcycle oil in my f650. and i have to stop to urinate quite frequently.
