    bmw f650, 5372 miles, amsoil 10w-40

i'll probably thicken this up a bit with some 20w-50 or something. lc and fp. bmw says no synth in this motor, but lots of guys use it with no problem. bmw's recommended oci is 6000 miles. i'm not real gentle either.

    microfiber wash mitts good?

my wife just got me one. it's ok, but it doesn't seem to get some stuff off the car without a bit too much effort. if the car is just a little dusty (not covered with bird poop and baked on bugs) i'd say it's ok. otherwise, stick with what ya got.

    Thoughts on the HHR?

the fit has more interior space than the civic. i believe that the gas mileage estimates for the fit are the revised epa estimates, which would slightly lower them, while the civic is still using the older epa method. some people are reporting 36 to 43 mpg on the fit. also, a loaded fit is...

    Thoughts on the HHR?

no question they are retro gimmicks. wagons and hatchbacks have been woefully unpopular, and these are vehicles that bust that niche somewhat. i wouldn't buy either.

    Thoughts on the HHR?

actually, that's exacly what they are. the pt cruiser and the hhr are station wagons for people who wouldn't own a wagon otherwise. you could throw in the scion xb and the dodge caliber as well.

    Thoughts on the HHR?

the honda fit has quite a bit more interior space than the civic. the "magic" seats provide a lot of interior flexibility as well. gas mileage for the fit has been better than (the new) epa estimates as well.

    What's a good cleaner wax?

i second this. easy to get, reasonably priced, and easy application and removal. it has a nice appearance and provides good protection. i use it a couple times a year (with applications of mothers synwax the rest of the time.)

castrol syntec blend 5w-30, 2002 subaru impreza 2.5rs

outside of the mobil1 i used to use, my viscosity has always been slightly out of grade. i usually had higher iron with the mobil1, so i started trying out other oils.

castrol syntec blend 5w-30, 2002 subaru impreza 2.5rs

i'm not that picky any more. insolubles have always been in that range (even after some autorx), so i just live with it.

    "Premium synthetics"

oil analysis. mobil1 was generally spent at 7500 miles. (there is at least one more uoa that fell off the page there.) if you search in the uoa section you can find mine.

    "Premium synthetics"

in my application, dino is more cost effective and wear is less per mile. i can go 5000 miles with dino, and 7500 with synth. wear metals are substantially less with the dino at this distance and it's obviously more cost effective. i'm running blend right now just to see how it goes. i do use...

What do you think of the Mr. Clean car wash system?

if you get one of those hose adapters with the multiple spray settings, the "soaker" setting will do pretty much the same thing.

the truth about synthetic oil in motorcycles

while this started out as a joke, i do have an answer for this question. bmw says not to use synthetic oil in the f650 series. so i'm using amsoil synthetic motorcycle oil in my f650. and i have to stop to urinate quite frequently.

Why does Ford have to make things so complicated?

one of the drivers for lifetime fluid is that many people won't ever change the atf anyway, so what's in the tranny had better be good. contamination (from the initial build) is the predominant cause of tranny failure, so the move is to reduce incoming contamination. both ford and gm are...

    nanowax vs. nanowax spray

the nano wax liquid paste is no great shakes. i use it on the face mask of my helmet with good results, but that's about it. it goes on easy and comes off easy. fairly short duration, even on a silver car. the spray is even easier to use, gives a good "hard" slick feel (unlike waud, which has a...
