bmw f650, 5372 miles, amsoil 10w-40

i'll probably thicken this up a bit with some 20w-50 or something. lc and fp.

bmw says no synth in this motor, but lots of guys use it with no problem. bmw's recommended oci is 6000 miles. i'm not real gentle either.

Bearing wear seems fine, so I don't think a thicker oil will benefit you in this situation. Aluminum engines with wet clutches tend to shed lots of Al, so no big surprise there either.

Which Amsoil 10W-40 is this? Is this the engine they recommend the 10W-50 in? I have a hard time believing that a good 10W-50 can be made without using some synthetic basestock?

sorry it took me a while to get back on this. it's the new amsoil synthetic mc oil. bmw says either 10w-40 or 20w-50.
