Thoughts on the HHR?

What do you expect for something that starts around $14K

It's great for the price range. Fit & finish is better than some other GM vehicles that are twice the price. Good powertrain.

actually, that's exacly what they are. the pt cruiser and the hhr are station wagons for people who wouldn't own a wagon otherwise. you could throw in the scion xb and the dodge caliber as well.
The trouble with calling the PT Criuser and HHR station wagons is the room they don't have behind the rear seats. I'd expect a station wagon to haul more than a few bags of groceries.

IMO the PT Cruiser and HHR are both gimmickmobiles. It makes sense they'd be similar since they were both designed by the same guy.

I'll pass. If I want a carnival ride I'll go to the fair...

no question they are retro gimmicks. wagons and hatchbacks have been woefully unpopular, and these are vehicles that bust that niche somewhat.

i wouldn't buy either.

I think it's closer to a 1949 Chevrolet Suburban

IIRC, GM has said as much.

At least Chrysler had the good sense to model their retro car after a good looking car fo it's time, a 37 Ford Sedan.

Yes, it surely resembles the sublurban. Somehow ..they manage to put just the right amount of blase'~ in all but one or two models that they make.

How can you guys dog the ecotec but give nothing but praise for the Fit? Yeah I bet that 103hp (or whatever it is) really hauls 4 people around great! And it gets worse gas mileage than the civic...

the fit has more interior space than the civic. i believe that the gas mileage estimates for the fit are the revised epa estimates, which would slightly lower them, while the civic is still using the older epa method. some people are reporting 36 to 43 mpg on the fit.

also, a loaded fit is several thousand dollars less than a comparably loaded civic.

I like the car. I've driven an LT with the 2.4L Ecotech, leather interior and all the goodies. I found it to have plenty of power, a nice roomy interior and very good road manners. The looks might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's a nice car that's a lot more stylish than anything I've seen from across the Pacific.

I like my mom's new HHR! My dad doesn't like it, but it's mainly because he doesn't believe in spending any money. For a while, she had the only bright red one I'd ever seen.

If Toyota had made the same vehicle, it would've been viewed as genius.

I had an '06 1LT HHR for about 6 months. no troubles at all with about 10K on it at trade in. It was the 2.2 Ecotec and managed 33mpg Hwy on trips, about 27 combined with about 30 percent of that being city. Power while not spectacular was very adequate for me. Ride was a little soft and very comfortable with a little body lean in hard turns. No problems at all with the rear drum brakes. Very good stopping power for this vehicle IMHO. And what I mean by that is that its not a sports car. I know some are now wondering why I traded it: 4.9 APR VS 0 APR. I traded up to an '06 Impala with only a small increase in payment. And truth be told there were times when 5 people and all of their luggage was a bit much for the available space. All in all I would have not traded if not for the APR. And the style just kept growing on me as well as the convienience features. I loved the remote start, sun roof, MP3 stereo, dark tint windows, power seats etc. And to top it all I was under water only $200.00, it resold really quickly too. Rickey.
