PRIUS stick shift coming soon .

My parents have owned an Insight since '00 and a Prius since '06. The Insight has 95k miles and 65 mpg lifetime. It's a much more driver-oriented car than the Prius. While you can just get in the Prius and drive without knowing or caring about mileage or the battery, you can't do that on the...

    Spotted some GC..Jacksonville FL

Yeah which one? I checked two of the Jax stores out not too long ago and they were out. Then I found some green while on vacation up in Cleveland

    Found some Green today

Same here. I was on vacation up in the Cleveland area and stopped at an AZ for some window cleaner. Just for kicks, I checked for any GC and to my surprise, they had two rows of the stuff. My local AZ's have stopped carrying it. I noticed the label was different and further inspection revealed...

Do cartridge filter setup have an ADBV?

On my MINI, the filter screws downward, not straight down but well over 45 degrees. When unscrewing it, you can hear when the seal breaks and the oil inside drains back down into the sump and out into the pan.

    Double-Super-Secret 5W-40 Audi RS4 Racing Oil

I'd suspect the Engineers know what is going on. It's the management that probably pushed to get the cars released

Now if they could only get it to smell like Castrol R, I'd be all over it

Best water for cooling system mix

Since when does Nascar use nuclear reactors for powerplants? Last I heard, they are still using carburetors .

    Older solid lifter engines

I've heard Castrol GTX 20w-50 has the right formulation for the older flat tappet engines. Other weights don't. I use it in my old Brit.

    Pretty yellow K&N cartridge filter - Ford/Mazda

MINI has been using cartridges in it's models as well. Unfortunately, they cut the entrance points for the threads all the way down so it's way too easy to crossthread. As for brands, I would be a little more cautious as to what filter you use with a canister. I use OEM filters and can get them...

    Extreme Engine Failure: Phosphorus

Even gear oil wouldn't be that thick unless it was a 140w. Something is awry.

Need a replacement for German Castrol

I've been through this quandary over the past couple months as well. I had just switched from M1 5w-30 to GC in my MINI on the last oil change and didn't want to go back. My main concern in finding a replacement was the long OCI on the MINI. I wanted something that could go 8 or 10k miles and...

GM 2.2L Ecotec- Cracked Head- 365k miles

I'm also on the side of slight disappointment. While 365k miles is a lot (and I hope to make it to that mark someday), doing it in 3 years is a whole lot easier on an engine than doing it in 20. To achieve than kind of mileage, the car has to be taken on a lot of long highway trips where the oil...

    Running A Quart Over

I know several Lotus owners with Europa twin cams who run a quart over due to a little fact that sustained high speed cornering to the right prevents the oil from draining back into sump . Apparently, its not fun to look down and see zero oil pressure as you exit that corner

    GC 0w-30, 4898 miles, 2005 MINI Cooper S

Higher iron in GC seems to be fairly common. It does look a lot better than your first run with it though. Everything else looks good. As a fellow MCS driver also running GC, I look forward to seeing how well this oil performs over the next couple changes.

    no GC at autozone...

Yep, my local AZ has no spot for GC anymore.

My method to reduce engine start wear

I agree. Get an Accusump if you want to pre-lube. Plumb it into a high pressure line and be done with it. It depends on the engine as to how fast oil pressure builds...and if it can build at cranking speeds. My old Brit starts building pressure after 3-4 seconds of cranking and will build to...

Best water for cooling system mix

We all know deionized water is best but what are the next best options? The reason I ask is that I have an RO system at my house that puts out 0 ppm dissolved solids. What's the difference between this and distilled water that you can get at Walmart? Also, I was up at Pep Boys today and noticed...

Which is harder on motor oil: turbo or super?

I agree. If the SC uses engine oil for lubrication, then it's going to be hard on oil just like a turbo. Otherwise, turbo is harder on oil than SC.
