I have seen a couple different places to get oil analysed I'm sure there are many more. What are your opinions on who I should use to get an oil analysis done?

Blackstone is okay for generic results. Great at showing you something is wrong. Terry is the man for writing prescriptions for remedies. He gives a very good bang for the buck.

One feature with Terry (that's not mentioned much) is that he polls you about the engine and usage. Stuff that Blackstone can't take into account. What kind of air filter are you using? Oil filter? Typical trip length ??..etc..etc. If he sees something that doesn't add up ...he'll fire you back a question, more or less "seeking" the location of the missing link. Very interactive relationship between vendor and customer.

Dyson is great.

Blackstone accuracy is questionable and I will maintain that position until further data convinces me otherwise.

For $20, I get a fully paid (both directions) kit that includes TBN with accuracy that is at least as good and often better than Blackstone. On the other hand OAI is slower than a dead turtle.

And who is this from?

From their website: "Simply call AMSOIL INC. at (800) 956-5695 for pricing information or to order kits".
A little bias there, Pablo?

Yes ..a dealer makes dime ZERO on a UOA through OAI. No commission credits ..no profit ..nuttin'.

I want to add that I have nothing against Blackstone. They have great and VERY fast service. They are a good company..... my gripe is with the accuracy of the additive numbers, such as Ca, P, Zn, Mo, (when in the XXX range) and their continued use of SUS rather than the accepted modern cSt for kinematic viscosity.

Blackstone for most generic interpretations. For in-depth, contact Dyson Analysis, best price for the kit & analysis combo, period!

Can't you get the Dyson Analysis through Blackstone?

Yes, you can. For $30 you can have Terry interpret any oil analysis. But, his Premium Analysis has additional tests performed that are above and beyond most labs like Blackstone.

I had Terry do an analysis for me through Blackstone. He's trying to correct a fuel dilution problem I'm having so I'll be having a premium analysis done next oil change. I didn't know if it made a difference to order it through Blackstone or to order it directly from Terry (if you can even do that).

I have had a bunch of analyses done by Blackstone and their service is great. If you suspect fuel dilution (flashpoint for used oil lower than 380 or so) I would use Terry Dyson, for the extra $20 his service is well worth it and more comprehensive than Blackstone. Order it directly through his website and you get some data that Blackstone doesn't give you as well as (and most importantly) Terry's professional interpretation. When I had my analysis done by Dyson Analysis he found a fuel dilution problem that Blackstone was not seeing, I imagine there are many people with moderate fuel dilution which does not show up in the generic oil tests done by most labs. There is more to it than just flashpoint and viscosity, but in a Blackstone Analysis when the flashpoint is 375 or lower you may want to consider paying a little extra next time and send a sample to TD.

Another great aspect of going with Terry is that if he doesn't like the results or ?s them, he will ask the lab to re-run them. That is of no cost to you, just part of his service.

I'm not too sure how willing the other labs are willing to simply re-test cause 'you wonder' about a particular reading.
