API has an associted web site run by the Pet Insitute that has a real good bad oils list. It does a good job of identifying out of spec oils, some of which are just used truck or machine shop oils.
It also has a good list of VOA results.
The Acea folks did have a similar site to the Pet Institute, BUT it was partly deleted due to some type of legal issue a few years ago. Does anyone have that oily Police sites address ??
The main Acea site also has an oil comparison tool, so you can enter your approved OEM oil and it lists other equivalent oils with the most similar first.
Pet Institute: www.pqiamerica.com
Acea oil comparison: www.oilspecifications.org
So if you are about to buy an oil that is not OEM approved, try the oil comparison tool for alternatives, or at least check it is listed by Acea or not banned by the PQIA
