Comments from Blackstone:

Maybe when you see how good these results look you'll be

convinced that 10,000-mile intervals are okay. You went even a

little longer than 10,000 miles, but really metals

have only increased a few ppm since last time. We look at

results like this and think that if you're going to get

practically the same wear on 11,000 miles or 3,000 miles,

you might as well go longer. If you're still not convinced,

that's okay. Our feelings won't be hurt. Metals do look

great here, and no contamination was found.

Excellent engine!

The previous UOA was Mobil 1 5W-20. Both were with
Bosch 3330 filters.

History: This car belongs to my daughter and getting
her to do regular maintenance has been tough. She
came home to visit and when I saw her oil had gone
over 11,000 miles, I decided to change it and sent
in a UOA.

Factors: Her commute is rather ideal. She lives
in a small town so drives for about 10 minutes at
speeds of 25/35. She then hits a state highway
with 45 mph speed limits for about 20 minutes.
She then hits I-5 and 70 mph speed limits for
about 90 minutes before hitting another 10 minutes
of 35 mph.

I think I'll tell her to aim for 8K OCI's knowing
that she'll get it done around 10K. Now I have
to say the skeptic in me thinks this is too good.
I've emailed Blackstone to ask them to double
check that the right sample was attached to my
report.

I have no idea why the format is going crazy on me
but I hope you guys can read it.

Seems legit to me. Here is what I ended up with after 11,675 on PP 5W20 in a 2011 Fiesta: clicky

It's absolutely reasonable to take the reported results as valid, IMO.

Very nice overall.

Good to extend past 10k miles most likely, but you'd want a TBN/TAN view a time or two just to verify that TAN is not grossly high. (Note: TAN over TBN is nothing to panic over; I'd only get concerned if TAN was over 8).

That the PP did very well in an extended run is no surprise. That is not just true of syns, but all lubes in general, in a healthy engine. Nearly all examples will show wear rate reductions as the OCI lengthens, as long as major condemnation parameters are not over-run. (In you case, everything is well in control, and TAN has been already adressed above). In all honesty, I'd suspect any decent SN dino lube would do as well, believe it or not. The usage you describe is about the easiest an engine will ever encounter.

Congrats on the nice motor.

At least you understand that it's the skeptic in you! I would be surprised if Blackstone comes back with numbers that are drastically different.

Looks good! Keep it up.

Thanks, guys. I feel better that no one thinks the report is unreasonable.

Her choice to live in a small town. I've urged her to move closer but she's happy (for now) so it's her call.

Yeah, tough commute. However, great oil run! Seems like a legitimate report to me, I don't think Blackstone would mess up that bad, too often at least.

Seems like great oil in a sold engine! Commute is probably easy miles for the car as you say.

I've about decided that these 'easy' miles are more like the fountain of youth. It seemed to me that relatively long periods of normal operating temperature were necessary to activate and optimize the add pack in the oil. When the OLM finally went off at 8300 miles there was plenty of TBN still there, but my customarily short commute had allowed the TAN to outrun the add pack.

The Ford engineers evidently agree, because they have rigged the Oil Life Monitor to penalize me heavily when I leave the car parked for a few days.
