In the Zimmerman trial, the prosecution has to PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman murdered Martin, right? I mean, they can't just say "Zimmerman did it -- PROVE ME WRONG!" They have to make a good case based on solid evidence, right?

If you understand that, you understand why "prove me wrong" is not a meaningful response. Either you can back up what you said, or you can't.

Exactly. The case was not even going to be prosecuted. Police do this all the time.

The only reason it ever went to court was purely political.

I live in a neighborhood where we have C.O.P.S. (Citizens on Patrol). They drive around in their personal vehicles patrolling the neighborhood. It`s usually older retirees. I on numerous occasions have been followed by them if I`m out walking late at night,or jogging,which I do on a regular basis. If I`m tinkering with my car late at night they`ll sort`ve check me out,and drive on once they see I`m not up to no good.

Do I rush them and say "Yo dawg why are you following me,you got a problem?". No,instead I`m thankful they`re watching over mine and my fellow neighbor`s property,which they DON`T have to do,but chose to do so because they`re helping out their fellow neighbors.

I`ve been approached by them late at night (and by the way I`m a clean cut caucasion) and have still been approached. Happened one night really late as I was tinkering with my car,then drove off. I stopped and chit chatted with them for a few,thanked them for watching over us (which like I said they have no obligation to do) and moved on as did they.

Last night a guy parked his Tahoe (said person doesn`t live here) in front of his friend`s house,sat in his car with the door open,while talking on the phone. This was around 1am. I couldn`t sleep so I went out for a walk when I witnessed this. I saw him approached by the watch people and I walked by for a listen. Guy in Tahoe was polite and they carried on a conversation. They then drove past me a few times,I waved-he waved,and then drove off. If I`d gotten in his face and assualted him,that night would`ve had a much different outcome.

Gated commutities (like the one Zimmy was watching) are VERY tight knit. ANY one who doesn`t belong (which I mean doesn`t reside there) WILL get followed and if acts the least bit suspicious,will be followed. It`s happened to me many times actually. What he should`ve done was gone about his business,maybe introduced himself to Zimmy and thanked him for watching over his relative`s neighborhood,and moved on. He`d still be alive today and NONE of this would`ve happened.

I haven't bothered reading the previous eleven pages so this has probably already been stated.

The prosecution, IMO, has NOT proven Zimmerman guilty beyond a resonable doubt. Their whole case hinges on Zimmerman's 'state of mind' (was he motivated by racial hatred).

The testimoney proves that one of them had 'racial hatred' and that was Trayvon Martin (who called Zimmerman a 'creepy cracker').

I'm concerned when the goverment is more concerned with 'mob violence' (if the verdict displeases the mob), than justice.
When OJ Simpson got away with murder, whites didn't threaten violence.

PS: it's disgraceful that the biased media keep showing a picture of 'little Trayvon' when he was 12 years old.

Yes certain parts of any big city are filled with people who are ignorant, frustrated, share a culture of stupidity and violence, and have no hope for a better future in their lives. Those people will always be prone to riot and violence. Doesn't matter w hat race, skin color or religion they are - any group with high levels of ignorance and shared culture of stupidity and violence is always prone to mass mayhem.

It only means you don't have to try to retreat before defending yourself if you are attacked. It doesn't mean you can shoot someone just because they punched or shoved you. The level of force you are allowed to use to defend yourself depends on the level of force that you are being attacked with. You could use deadly force on someone if they were trying to bash your head in with a baseball bat, but not if it is just a wiffle ball bat.

Zimmerman is kind of a hothead punk with a not so squeaky clean criminal history. Treyvon was a thug; he was into fighting and general thugary. When 2 characters like that meet, bad things usually happen. BUT, based purely on the law and the facts/testimony given in court, even if Zimmerman started the fight, he ended up on the bottom getting his head pounded in and he should walk on both 2nd degree murder and manslaughter.

That's the way I see it. If Zimmerman walks, he'll be sued in civil court until the day he dies and he basically won't be able to be seen in public for years to come. His life is over regardless of the outcome. Well, he'll probably get some lucrative book deals!

This whole case is ridiculous. Zimmermans injuries do not support your claims of "pummelling him". There is ZERO evidence that zimmerman was returning to his car. Again, I think it's pretty obvious that zimmerman went into this looking for a reason to have a confrontation.

And again I definitely think there is a portion of the population wanting him to be acquitted just so that "they don't take away my gun" which is a valid reason to worry imo, but should be irrelevant.

Helmets with face-shields and M16A2s (which I never qualified with....Armored crewman qualify in pistol, grenade, submachine gun, and crew served weapons.) No magazines.

We drilled with batons and shields for 1 unit training assembly. I had performed lots of inventory and stocking in supply. I do not know where they came from or where they went after.

I seriously overthought the whole thing. Man, I had visions of Kent State and Tiananmen Square running through my head when I was alerted for riot control.

Similar here. But the standing rule is to observe and report. Be a good witness. Do not confront.

We'll never really know what happened that day. Was George Zimmerman provoking Trayvon Martin? How close was he following? Did Trayvon Martin see Zimmerman 50 yards back and turn and attack him?

When I was a teenager working as an usher/doorman at the General Cinema at the mall. I had a couple of run ins with a mall security guard with grandiose fantasies of being an actual law enforcement officer. He demanded to see my driver's license while I was warming up my Kawasaki after work. I rode away. He confronted me while I was carrying out the trash at about 11:00 pm. I gave him the bird and walked back in the building with him screaming. "FREEZE! GET ON THE GROUND! YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!" I went back in and informed the concessionists that I needed a particularly nasty trash bag next time and that I was going to beat the [omitted] out of him with the garbage. The mall fired him shortly after that for bringing his firearm to work and holding a couple of mall employees at gun point for "suspicious behavior".
Is George Zimmerman that kind of guy? Well, he certainly has a history of that kind of behavior.
Did Trayvon Martin spontaneously turn and attack his pursuer? Well, it wouldn't be the first time a teenager overreacted.

Yep, that's it in a nutshell; most every other comment seems to be people ranting about their own fears. Whatever people "think" about it, this is the legal reality.

Yeah, his life is ruined or at least changed dramatically for the worse. He's a hero to some though, so he can capitalize on that if he wants to do so. I think I'd move to Banff or something if I were in his shoes...

You're wrong about the lawsuit thing, though. There's a provision of the Stand your Ground law which actually prohibits suing for wrongful death if the law is invoked. I think that's pretty heinous, but that's the law.

Haha those mall rent-a-cops are always hillarious!! Back when we were in highschool we'd ALWAYS taunt them and just laugh at them when they'd try to confront us. We'd never do anything violent,just have a good time messing with them haha!

This whole trial is just a mess. The D.A. should lose his job, the judge is completely biased, the lead prosecutor is trying to pursue a outcome there is not nearly enough evidence to prosecute, this whole trial is just a joke of the whole legal system.

It is like trying to watch a 3 stooges skit, the fact the jurors have taken this long to deliberate is more proof that this is just a witch hunt not a attempt to pursuit justice. Two men made terrible decisions and a young man is dead because of this. G.Z. is going to spend the rest of his days on earth in his own personal hades because he is form of the lower portion of the gene pool. T.M. is dead because he decided to confront a dummy with a gun in public place not a higher level decision either.

Maybe it is true, everything DOES HAPPEN FOR A REASON.
