Last week I was picking up some filter for upcoming the OCI on each of my cars. I'm finally getting to use some of my AZ clearance oil. After much research I decided on an XG2 to pair with Castrol 0w-30 for the Mountaineer and the old standby FL400s to go with M1 AFE 0w-30 in the Focus. I'm carrying my two filters and another item or two and BAM! The Motorcraft filter hits the floor...
Without even looking at it, I switched it for another one on the shelf. Would it have been fine? Quite possibly, but after reading about dome end bypass valves and malfunctioning filters all on account of a dent I thought I'd better 'play it safe'.
A pre-BITOG me wouldn't have given it a second thought. "Use with confidence". Now the really funny part is I got the XG2 home and opened it and discovered that the dome end of that filter has a quarter size dent...
Anyone have any luck exchanging open oil filters at Wal-Mart? I can't imagine it would be a problem, the filter and box are labeled and it's obviously brand new.
