Your ultimate sleeper?

Take my car, install a 5.0L big bore iron Modular siamese block, with 3.7" forged pistons attached to stock length/stroke forged rods and crankshaft. Heads would be worked over Modular DOHC heads force fed by a Tork Tech Supercharger kit incorporating an Eaton TVS 1900. Exit would be through Custom long tube headers into dual 2.5" H-pipe exhaust.
It would be backed up with a thoroughly worked over 4R70W with a heavily modified valve body and extra clutches wherever room can be made.
Rear axle would be similarly beefed with 31 spline axles and a Ford LSD with +1 clutch mod.
Suspension would be upgraded with ADDCO sway bars front and rear along with Naake QA1 twin adjustable shocks at all four corners and custom springs out back. Rear control arms and watts link would be upgraded to Metco parts and the frame mounts for the control arms heavily beefed.

When my HHR has been used up as a daily driver, I dream of shoe horning a SBC into it and converting it to RWD somehow. An impossibility I'm sure. But it would make a neat sleeper.

Well, the RWD maybe impossible, but you could still probably shoehorn the SBC into it and find a transmission that might work in FWD config.

1979 Ford LTD with a 358" big bore 5.4 aluminum block, ported Ford GT heads, customs cams, supporting mods, it would either be a 11.5:1 high rpm build or a 9.8:1 twin turbo build. Built 4R70W with a custom billet lockup converter, manual valve body with a stand alone trans controller handling lockup duty, Ford 8.8 with forged 33 splines, TrueTrac, c-clip eliminators, etc.

Looks like a granny sled, but they are light and take many Fox Body parts.

Easy:

Put a bigger engine in the Lincoln

I'm thinking a Kaase mill:

Essentially, that engine, drop the compression to about 11.5:1, and whatever else "max effort 1800+HP" parts that don't jive with pump gas and longevity. Custom cam for wicked street manners and driveability, 3" duals dumped just behind the bumper with dual Magnaflow mufflers per bank to quiet it down while off the "go pedal", DFI, mated to a built 4R100.

Put the stock wheels back on it, but have the back ones widened to about 10". Run a drag radial that doesn't give too much away.

Jesus.. Beast.

A Crown Vic with someone other than an old man or a cop driving it would be a total sleeper. If it were accelerating at greater than a leisurely pace, I would be utterly blown away and completely forget about racing it!

A Hyundai excel coupe, modified in a Reault Clio V-6 manner, using one or another of their V-6s.

But a workmate's 2WD hilux ute with a 5 litre V-8 is pretty sleeperish. Not like his 4WD hilux with a 6-71 poking out the bonnet.

The Lexus V8 is put in everything over here, but the best sleeper is a Lexus (Toyota Soarer) V8 in a Hi Ace van.

Mine was a FORD Falcon with a Ford police interceptor engine- a long time ago. Favorite phase to other kid drivers was "Rum to 100 mph and punch it for titles?"

I too always thought a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis with some hot Mustang powertrain would be an awesome vehicle.

Maybe not ultimate, but my Ford Contour spanked a LOT of stupid kids. Dude in a Mustang once was playing games with me, trying to pass on the right. So, I let him pass and then proceeded to hang on his rear bumper all the way up to 100. The Contour shouldn't have been able to keep up like that, and the guy was really trying. Same thing with EVERY idiot in a rice-mobile. My favorite move would be to see them gripping the steering wheel going all out, thinking they were "beating me" while I was at about 1/4 throttle. Then I'd pull ahead and watch them cry.

I would also do a Datsun Z with a SR20DET in it...

I don't think I've seen many stock Datsun 240 or 280Z's left. I've seen very impressive 280Z's, one with a nissan 4.5L V8 in it, also another one with a turbo skyline motor. Pure track toys though and no one would mistake them for anything other than stiff competition to Viper/Vette/M3 level of car...

I may be biased, but I'd say my Cobalt SS. Since it's a sedan and has a very low-profile spoiler on the back, it really doesn't scream its capabilities to anyone.

As the kid riding my behind in ricer found out one day. I was coming up an on-ramp and he was riding my tail like there was no tomorrow. Once the ramp straightened out and I saw that there was no traffic, I punched it and was over the Indiana-Illinois border before he was even off of the ramp.

This is an easy one, just get an Omni GLH or GLHS, a few simple mods and your running 12's. Take the badges off and voila :)

You dont need no stinking modified high $$$ build up.

LOL! I had a friend in highschool who had the GLHS and man would that car fly! We were earning money every weekend racing Iroc-Z's and Mustangs. I agree - that is a good sleeper.
