You meant to say reciprocating. Sorry, just for accuracy.

The Honda CVT is actually excellent. It downshifts very fast, the main complaint in the past about other CVT's. And you always know you're in the right mechanical ratio with a CVT instead of a finite-geared approximation. That's another discussion I know.

I think this thread (well at least I've been treating it that way) went to jest on page 2.

Its obvious that both the CRV and CX5 are great vehicles in their class. I'd have to cross shop with a Forester or Outback thrown in too, and it would likely come down to the best fitting seats or best ride on a test drive.

Any would be a huge upgrade from my rattily, rubber-band shifter, Vue.

CX-5 may (or may not, depending on options) have a lower MSRP than a CRV but Honda has a lot more wiggle room on price than Mazda. 2 years ago we were looking at a $2k difference between a 6 and an Accord on what we could actually negotiate. The 6 was not worth 2k more to us so we got the Accord and its been great. That earthdreams engine is so strong in manual form. If they offered the CR-V with a 6MT i would seriously want one.

Thanks guys for all the info. We have not pulled the trigger on anything yet, we are going to hold out till the end of the year to wait for more cx-5s trimmed the way we want to reach out dealer.

Make sure you are looking at more than one Mazda dealer, so that you can play them against each other for the vehicle you want to buy, when they both have identically equipped cars.

It works best if you have at least three dealers with the same car you want, but two will give you similar results.

BC.
