You know you are getting old when you are traveling alone, no luggage, and Avis rent a car assigns you a 2025 Jeep Wrangler, and you select the change vehicle option, and a Chrysler Pacifica or Honda Odyssey are offered and you consider taking the Pacific or Odyssey instead of the Wrangler.

Last rental... I was assigned a Ford Edge, and I negotiated my way into a 2025 GMC Sierra SLT Crew Cab for the same price.

On a recent trip to CA, I reserved a compact for my wife and I. The agent offered us a no-charge upgrade to a Grand Cherokee. At $4.49 to $5.29 per gallon? "No thanks...I'll just take that Corolla."

Learned my lesson in Boston a few years ago when I got a "free" 4 Runner upgrade. And the thing delivered about 15 mpg.

Traveling alone, always rent sedan.

I don't care about age, but if I did not need that car for off-roading, I'm not sure why I would punish myself driving it.

My wife owned a new 09 Honda Odyssey when my kids were young. I drove it on a long distance family vacation and to this day that was the ONLY vehicle I could ride 8 hours and feel like I could turn around and do it again.

I love cars and trucks and always buy the "fun ones" Think Hellcat, WRX etc , but if my life, job required me to travel for work my FIRST choice would be a Honda Odyssey, assuming the new ones have not lost whatever that 09 had?

…And where were you, GON, when this happened to you? Just curious.
Last night, SEA airport.

One of the very few time Avis at SEA airport actually had a vehicle "selected" in advance. SEA AVIS usually requires a "see the preferred booth" to get a vehicle assigned.

Love the way you are looking at life

At age 72 I still have a full head of hair, but a little trick I do when driving certain cars or driving in certain areas is to wear a baseball cap. IMO wearing a baseball cap makes you look younger, especially when seen from behind while driving.

FWIW,

Scott

Or your My Chart password is the only one you remember. (Few will get this)

I grew up next to people who actually bought their CJs at surplus auctions.
And both fellas painted their rides with a brush.

A coworker leased one and I didn't like driving it at highway speeds.

Regardless of my age, I've never found a Jeep Wrangler appealing.
they definitely are not for everyone..if it were not for Jeeps, motorcycles and bicycles I would be wealthy....just got back from this road trip. the jeep was well suited for Hwy 101 from Washington thru Oregon and into California.

This was in June and again it was perfect for Utah and Colorado. The gentleman in the bottom photo is in his mid 80's and he meets once a year to Jeep somewhere...
