Yea, snow

Here is a pic at the snow capital of the US (which goes back and forth between Buffalo/Syracuse/Rochester). Some old dude burried from a Buffalo Lake effect event in 1979. Some serious snow up their.

But even your winters are nice! What does it go down to at night, maybe 10C?

We had -24C here the other morning! Brrrr!

Toronto ended up getting about 10" of snow yesterday, plus the freezing rain on top of it, which was worse since anyone who didn't shovel their driveways before the freezing rain hit, now have a frozen thick layer on their driveways. The roads are still a mess here, a lot of sections still have thick layers of bumpy frozen sections. I don't think they salted some sections of the highway for 24 hours! Luckily the sun is shining bright today, so this should help out. But the parking lots and sidestreets will still be messy for a while to come.

The long term forecast originally said it was going to be 50-55F for two days next week, with rain (so it would've gotten rid of all the yucky mess!), but now they changed it to 32F and cloudy instead.

msparks, I saw that I-24 from Nashville up to Paducah, Kentucky was ice and snow packed! Seeing that icy roadway reminded me when the roller-rink announcer would proclaim "this is an all skate!"

I hope you didn't have to drive in that mess! It's amazing anyone gets anywhere since only major roadways are salted 'round here. At least the local Kroger had plenty of cold Fosters for the holidays.

Well luckly I didn't have to go anywhere, if I did I sure would have stayed off of I24, I'm pretty good about finding the backroads.

Anyhow I ventured out today to return a movie about 5 miles down the road, the darned idiots make me crazy, I was going to make a couple of other stops but decided to head home since I don't have the the patience for other drivers.

I did get to use 4X4. I'm pretty experienced at driving in the snow and ice, since I grew up in Ohio, it's the other idiots. Heck I was going 50 on some of the back roads on the way home, as long as you don't have to stop suddend or make sharp turns you can go pretty fast. Saw a lot of cars in the ditch, I don't understand why folks that can't drive in the snow even venture out. I think this is the moronic part of it.

For 5 years I had a contract to deliver nuke meds to hospitals in south central PA. I drove 350-400 miles a night. Harrisburg has about 100 individual bridges and the area was frequently subjected to freezing rain. I'd be there in my BMW or my C20 or whatever I had and would maintain about 6-8 car lengths in the 10 mph traffic ...this allowed people jammed at the on ramps to enter the roadway and allowed me plenty of extra space to stop. The rest of the clowns were bumper to bumper ...and invariably ..there were a ton of fender benders. I just couldn't figure out what virus had infected so many in a situation that is so hazardous.

We have the same situation here. We have so little snow ..maybe 3 or 4 good days ..that no one develops the skills to cope with it. I just can't understand why they just don't stay home.

Has anyone figured out the need for full tanks, bread, milk, bacon, and a variety of other items upon being informed of the onset of snow? I mean if you were not going to the store tomorrow anyway ..what do you need? If you weren't going to get gas anyway ...and given that you will either be doing your normal driving ...or not driving at all..why would you go and fill up? To feel good about your car (probably FWD with the tank in the back) being prepared to sit there until the snow is gone??

It never quite made sense to me.

At least it snowed and was super cold on my days off. I would really prefer for it to snow on my days off. That way I don't have to worry driving early in the morning, maybe before the roads have been cleared by the snowplows, to get to work. If it snows on my days off that is better because I can wait until the streets are better before I try to drive somewhere.

Heh, we can't complain about not having a White Christmas!

We got 11 inches here in South Texas. Unfreakin believable. I have lived here all my life and I have NEVER seen anything like this!

Yall have a good Christmas.

I arrived in Missouri City, Texas (Southwest of Houston) on the 24th in an honest to goodness snow storm. Well what passes as a snow storm south of the Red River.

Stopped at a grocery before getting to the sister-in-law's house. The store staff was doing a running snow report over the PA system.

It was magical to observe their reaction.

A once in a lifetime event along the Texas Gulf coast.

Don't forget about the upper peninsula of Michigan, they get tons of lake effect snow too.
