just got an 08 f150 5.4 used with 20,000 miles. as far as i can tell it has been on MC blend its whole life judging by the dealer motorcraft oci sticker when i got it and mc filter. from what i read about fords i should keep the mc filter but what would be the best quality oil for my truck from a parts store, and what interval should i go? and another thing when should i flush or drain and fill the trans?

there is a whole ceremony and everything!
Hang in there.

OK... Anybody's will be just fine. MC is one of the best, and the cheapest. No real good reasons to change from it.
A full synthetic will allow longer oil change intervals.

OCIs are like haircuts - it varies when people need them.
Roughly, figure 4-5,000 on conventional oil, and 10,000 on full synthetic.

if i were to switch to synthetic should i do a shorter interval to get the initial stuff out that it cleans up or just go right to a long interval?

I dont think anyone here would say that, since you're already on semi-syn.Are you going to take samples to track wear over the long term? There's only 20k on it ,might be a good time to start.

Not if the engine has been maintained properly.

It appears that your engine was maintained properly, so just use a good synthetic 5w20 or 0w20.

I agree. Stick with the Motorcraft or go full synthetic. You can't lose either way.

With Motorcraft being only 2.75/qt at Wal-Mart, it's win/win.
