the age old question...which oil...

2001 F150 SuperCrew with 5.4 L. We all know she’s spec’d for 5W-20 MC synthetic blend.
Trying to settle in with one oil and stick with it. Looking for recommendations:

MC 5W-20 synthetic blend (my choice, but for a truck with 92k miles?)
MC 5w30 conventional, NOT a blend
Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic 5W-20 or 5w30
Quaker State Q Torque 4x4 full synthetic 5W-20 or 5w30
Or my old favorite back in the day: Castrol conventional 5W-xx

Most importatnly, IMHO, since she’s “old” should I be running the 5w30 instead of 20?

Oh yeah, and do I go with the 5k OCI or 3k due to the mileage?

i've always liked 5w30 in my late model fords. just seem a little quieter. I will sacrifice a little mpg but that doesn't bother me.

Is there consumption issues? If not go with MC 5W-20.

All Motorcraft oils carrying API SM and ILSAC GF-4 ratings, regardless of viscosity range, are "synthetic blend" - and have been for more than two years*. As to viscosity range choice, follow your owner's manual for permissable climate choices.

*And THAT's due to Ford's choice of ConocoPhillips as the automaker's blender and bottler of the Motorcraft line of motor oils. CP's own brands: Phillips 66 TropArtic, 76 Super, Kendall GT-1, and Conoco Super All Season are all synthetic blends in their various viscosity range designations, too. Might wanna compare the pricing on TropArtic and Motorcraft the next time you're at WalMart...

Thanks, but as i'm reading the MC site, it appears the 5w30 offered is either a full dino or a full synthetic, no blends...and i currently have 5w30 Kendall GT1 synthetic from good 'ol Jiffy Lube in her now....now if only they used the MC filter i was able to score at Walmart...

Everything RAY H just told is true and excellent information. I would just add that the Motorcraft in the 5w20 and 5w30 wuold be higher quality then the rest of the CP line up. That MC site is way outdated.

MC's site is outdated, the 5w30 is labeled as a "Premium Synthetic Blend" oil (I have multiple quarts in my oil stash).

MC 5W20. I use 0W20 in my 150 and I use it to tow and haul with. 12K trouble free miles so far.

MC is a little better than the rest of the CP line up. In the Virgin form. But real world performance is negligible at best.

Where can I find the information on the M.C. oil being better in the virgin form. I have used it in my 2006 Toyota ,I would like to know.

Are you now running the MC 5W-20 in the rig?
Is she happy with it (ie no bad noises, no heavy consumption)?
If so, you've already found your oil.
Maybe a used oil analysis or two to back things up would be a thought.
