wrong oil

I have an engine and the manual stated DO NOT USE OIL WITH API SM,,,, but my dealer used oil that MEETS API SM....is this going to harm my engine ???

Well, the engine make, model, and year would be helpful. Plus, if the engine required API SN, and the oil is API SN, it will also "meet" API SM since API certs supercede the older ones... API SN is a valid replacement for anything that needs API SM.

Is this a gas or diesel engine? Roughly the year of the engine?

the more information you provide the better. The forum has a huge amount of knowledgeable folks and the statement you posted is lacking a bunch of details. This makes it very difficult to help you.

We need vehicle information (make model year and engine oil type oil weight etc)
