would you use this oil in your car?

I bought a few bottles of turf gard sm/gf-4 oil today at an estate. It seems that this formulation is perfectly fine for automotive use. I will probably use it as a fill when I burn a quart. The question I have is would anybody esle use it?
Do any of you have either the specs or an analysis of this oil.

Can you please describe my economic status in this scenario? Am I eating Ramen Noodles only when they are on sale. Do I take ketchup packages from fast food places to make soup? Or are we in the apocalypse and engine oil is completely unavailable. If so, then perhaps I would buy oil at estate sales (????????) and use lawnmower oil in my car. Then again, maybe not.

Seriously, there is saving money, stretching OCI's, and finding good prices on oil, then there is batSh1+ crazy. No offense

Hello, Gotta agree with the spirit of the previous post. Ask John Deere which engines this oil was bottled for. It looks to be air cooled engine oil. Nothing wrong with buying anything at an estate sale. Do not put the wrong oil in your automobile engine; or your lawn mower engine for that matter. Also, don't turn a blind eye to the foolishness of a passing thought brought on by a bargain. Sure, you could sneak 4 oz. of it into a crankcase of anything; but why bother or incur the risk? The bottles are new and sealed. The car is a 1993 corolla with 298000 miles. The oil is not labeled for air cooled engines only. It is good for all 4 cycle engines.
Now I do have plenty of other power equipment I could use it in. I just do not see difference between this and any other gf-4 oil.

SM oil in an older car? Absolutely!! For my money, air cooled engines are harder on oil than water cooled.

I guess it depends what type of oil you have been running in your 93 Corolla. By this point I'm sure you have figured out what the car likes. If the car runs like [censored] then be prepared to drain and fill with proper oil but chances are the engine will never know the difference.

Agreed, that is a HD quality oil. May have more zinc than and auto oil, but I would use it and not think twice...

It's an API SM oil, for goodness sake.
Also, Deere labeled oil is consistently quality stuff.
I'd use it as top-off oil without hesitation.
I'm assuming you got it dirt cheap.
If so, nice score!
Deals are where you find them.
Good for you for exploring ground off the beaten track and finding a deal.
If the price was right, I'd have bought it myself.

+2.....If the oil meets SM it will certainly work fine...I probably wouldn't use it in a new car but with 298K...no problemo

i paid a buck a quart. Yesterday I bought a quart of trop artic semi-synthetic gf-4 10w30 as a throw in.
I do the estate sale/ garage sale thing as a way to make a few bucks and save a lot.
yesterdays haul:
50 foot shore power and 4 adapters
100 foot rubber garden hose
tackle box packed with 3 reels and musky spoons,rapala's, and buck tails
quart of oil
$20
Does anyone have a oci on turf gard or know who makes it?

I'd use it without question. As you point out, it's SM/GF-4. Regardless of what others have said here, JD doesn't bottle oil only for air cooled engines, or spec oils from their suppliers with only that in mind. SM/GF-4 tells us otherwise. JD sells a pile of equipment that is liquid cooled, along with lots of diesel engines.

Considering my G37 uses the same oil filter as a pile of John Deere gas and diesel applications, would the naysayers have me retrofit my engine to accept an FL1A or something "more appropriate" since my oil filter is speced for lawn equipment?

Perhaps for my next G37 oil change, I should go to JD and get some TURF-GARD 5w-30 and a genuine JD filter. Considering both the filter and the oil meet my specifications to the letter, it would be perfectly acceptable.

label is written in English, there shouldn't be any reason not to use it.

Perhaps You should rethink YOUR craziness. Lately, I bought 15 quarts of amsoil transmission fluid for $50. I bought 5 quarts of toyota 0w20 + 2 filters for $10. I bought 10 toyota brand oil filters for $10. Gallons of supertech 5w30 for .50. Numerous quarts of various weight oil for 50 cents.
When my sons friends come over and are 2 quarts low, who do you think fills them up for free.
So my friend, I do not get offended . So with my little crazyness and some smart investing I am able to be done working at age 53 and play with my toys .
This is just another hobby that at times makes some serious cash and saves me a ton of money.
Yes , when the apocalypse comes ,I will be well prepared..
