Would you buy an electric car?

I've seen calcualtions that factor the effieciency of oil refineries, electric power plants and transmission losses, the efficiency of batteries charging and discharging and the efficiency of ICE, and the electric car came out ahead slightly less than 2x efficient. Maybe if you really factored in everything it'd be a wash. That being the case and with oil prices going no where but higher electric vehicles are probably going to be coming whether they really are more efficient, economical, less pollution or not.

I think the chinese have got 20 year panels down to ~$500/KW now. A 15KW array with a better storage system than lead acid batteries might do a house and a car or two.
If you think how much you spend on gas and electricity, and how much the grid and power plants are subsidized by governments, I think going small and local will win out once the technology is there.

Who needs heat when you've got that warm and fuzzy feeling?
