Accel is not an API certified oil anyway. It might say "SF" on the bottle but the API considers that an obsolete category.

Remember "Royal Triton Purple", and "Arco Graphite"? If they were so wonderful, where did they go???
I ran Arco Graphite for 190K in my '84 Volkswagen Jetta. When I had the valves adjusted at 180K the mechanic said the engine looked "spotless". It still ran fantastic at 190K when I traded it in. I still regret getting rid of that reliable old VW.
But that graphite oil was sure black...right out of the bottle!

It really should not be listed because it is an obsolete oil.
Remember "Royal Triton Purple", and "Arco Graphite"? If they were so wonderful, where did they go??? I think I remember reading back then that Pontiac put out notices to new car owners that if they found Arco Graphite in your crankcase, it would void your engine warranty. Bill T.

This has to be the worst oil i've ever heard of. I think Family Dollar has a similar house brand.
Ok Jimcor, ya got me. I lied about the whole thing. Matter of fact I run DG ND30 in my entire 14 car fleet. I'm just jealous of folks using that stupid detergenated 10w40 oil- I really want to make a .75 a quart crap oil look worse than it actually is.
I used Arco Graphite too, drove a TOYOTA back then.
I don't doubt the chunks Kingrob - but did you use the oil anyway?
Sorry. Find that kinda hard to believe.
Those Dollar General house brand oils looked cheap. Ok, this product wins top prize in my book for worst oil.

What the **** where you, the owner/overseer of a 14 car fleet, doing messsing around with this stuff to begin with. Slumming? Research for a lubricant change to DG ND30? Sorry mate, your story isn't holding up. And I still don't believe you poured chunks out of a Dollar General bottle.
jimcor I find kingrob's post hard to belive to. But take it easy. He is not being paid to do this. The only hope that I have is that he is giving his honest observations.

Since I started this thread, can I ask a favor? In future posts, let's say the "worst API certified oil" has to be at least API SL.

I was joking about the whole ND30 thing! I've never used non-detergent oil on ANY car I've ever owned! Jeez. If I was so broke the only oil I could run was Dollar General I would blow my brains out the back of my head. SAR-casm.
Anyway the quart in question was brought to my attention from my alcoholic uncle who WILL run any oil he can get his hands on simply because he doesn't care. He wanted to know if I'd ever seen anything like it and no, I have never seen anything like it before or since. I mean it was like you tip the quart over to let it pour out and it was stopped up with charcoal-like little chunks of what I guess was oil.
Being a skinflint he took it back to Dollar General and the woman gave him his money back in lieu of an exchange. He told her a simple swap would be fine but she said he would probably end up bringing the new quart back too as this was the fifth or sixth one brought back that month.
So if you believe me, fine. If not, that's fine too. I'm simply reporting a really $hitty quality control issue from a really bad non-premium motor oil that I was privy to. I never would have thought my integrity would be brought into question.
I didn't know that there were people here that expect Uni-Lube oil to hold itself to any kind of high standard or whatever.

The Uni-Lube oil that was said to have chunks in it may not be the fault of the oil maker.
After the oil leaves the makers warehouse,it may sit in the buyers warehouse in conditions that are not proper for it to do so.
We also dont know what may have been put in the oil by a disgruntled store employee or by a warehouse worker at the stores main warehouse.
To blame Uni-Lube for the problem without any proof of such could be considered wrong.

This applies to Uni-Lube just as it does to Mobil or any other oil.
