I know, I know, do a search. I did, but there were too many matches to go through.

I understand Wix is an excellent filter so I'd like to begin using it. Can anyone tell me the alternate brands that sell Wix?

I remember NAPA Gold, can anyone tell me the others?

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you that except for the labeling on the outside of the canister, the Wix, the Napa Gold, and the Carquest Premium filters were identical in every way, shape and form inside. Can I say the materials were exactly the same? No, but they sure looked it! The Napa Silver and Carquest "Red" filter were both wix filters with different filtering media in them.

Most filter makers produce different quality filters for different price points and customer requirements. We do not know if these are WIX's best filters unless we ask WIX.

That's a good point Ken! I emailed Wix here in Canada and found out that NAPA Gold and Carquest Premium were their top line filters up here.

You guys in the US should email Wix down there to find out which names and their first line premium stuff, and which brands are second line lower quality stuff.

One of the lower quality Wix made ones up here are labelled as Bravo filters.

Was able to pick up a couple of NAPA GOLD 1085's at a reasonable price $5.88 at a NAPA store. The only thing I noticed was excess black glue in the dome end when I looked down inside it. Probably nothing to worry about but it crossed my mind this stuff could possibly break loose and get into the oil flow since it is on the outgoing side. I found some others that looked OK.

Patman, since you are the GOTO guy for wix products how do we know if the media in a wix is the TO3 glass enhanced or if its the 640 paper.

I bought a 51348 yesterday and there are only one line of Wix in this part of Texas unless you buy the racing filters. White canister, white and yellow box ?

I like asking you questions, kind of refreshing.

Terry, from what I was told by Wix, all of the premium first line products from them are using this TO3 media. These first line products include the NAPA Gold, Carquest Premium and the Wix line. The ones that use the lesser media are their second line products, sold under names such as Bravo.

Here is a chart which might help:

Thanks Patman, The reason I ask is that I know from earlier testing we performed that the "sport truck" line had the media we all are interested in ,TO3.

When I view what little proprietary data ( probably out of date )we still have the Wix line just says "paper". Just wondering which paper and if they are selectively using the To3 media when we think it is in all the line.

Patman,I apppreciate your input and detective work.

It would be nice for one of you wix/dana lurkers to pipe in here.

If you guys have any doubt about the regular Wix line, then perhaps it's worth it to go for the NAPA Gold or Carquest Premium then.

Up here we don't even have the ones labelled strictly as Wix, ours are NAPA Gold or Carquest premium only.

Although the Castrol brand filters are no longer made by us, the Max Pro
Plus was more like a premium Wix filter but not quite.

Thank you for your inquiry.

i talked to wix today and they said if your oem filter calls for a glas enhanced media then the make the media according to the oem specs. in my case i use a wix 51372 or a napa 1372 filter and these don't have a glass enhanced media the lady at wix had to go and ask engineering about it...if this is so then why do their filters flow 11-13gpm? with 50 wt. oil and less?

That doesn't make much sense. Why would it matter if the OEM calls for glass enhanced media or not? If they offer it on all of their part numbers, then it's beneficial to everyone. It shouldn't matter if the OEM calls for it or not, it's the consumer who wants it!

Somehow I think this lady must be mistaken. It doesn't make sense for an oil filter maker to offer different levels of media within the same product line. Sure, they offer different quality media with their lower line filters, but if you pay top dollar for the premium filter, no matter which part number it may be, you should be getting the best media no matter what.
