States on the box of a NAPA Gold 1085 "T03 Glass-Enhanced Media"
This means that these filters trap 50% of the 19µ particles. Their absolute filtration (98.5%) might be something like 40µ particles.quote:

Depth-type filter media comes in two general thicknesses...just thicker than "paper" and the full thickness from the outer edge to the inner tube. Full thickness depth-type media clearly has too much flow resistance for full flow. Media just thicker than paper is fine for full flow and some folks can call it depth type. Toyota's Denso full-flow filters have fiberglass mat-type filter media that I measure as 2 to 3 mm thick. Is that depth type? Maybe so.quote:

I inquired with Wix about 2 filters for my applications (98 Honda Accord V6, 03 Jeep Liberty V6). For these applications, the website calls for a 51334 and 51516, respectively. The website clearly shows "paper" media for both filters. (Turns out, the website is out of date...)
I asked Wix for media type, flow rates in gpm, and filter efficiency in um. I also asked about any filters they might manufactur with a "depth" type media (like Amsoil...) Here is their reply:
"Both our 51334 and 51516 part numbers contain our premium blended media, T03. It's absolute rating is 19 with a flow capacity of 3-5 gpm. Today's full flow oiling systems could not live with the level of restriction to flow a depth media would offer. Depth media is an excellent media for by-pass style oil filtration not full flow. Our T03 media offers the ideal blend of cellulose, high efficiency fiberglass and other man-made materials to protect today's engines to ensure optimum life when changed according to the manufacturer's recommendations for the type of driving you are doing - "normal" or "severe".

Interesting, in direct contrast to Amsoil's claims about "depth media", Wix made a pretty definitive statement about the "depth media." Question is, who's right? Wix or Amsoil?
In case you don't have Amsoil's claim handy, here it is from their literature about the SDF filter media...
"Traps Dirt Throughout Media Thickness
The AMSOIL SDF has a lofted fiber depth-type media that traps dirt throughout its entire thickness for exceptional filtering efficiency. It keeps oil clean and free of wear-causing contaminants. The AMSOIL SDF Oil Filter provides up to 100 percent more capacity and up to 20 percent greater efficiency than other filters provide. It is ideal for use with extended oil drain intervals."
