Wix made in Mexico?

I would expect Champ's Mexican plant to produce OEM assembly line filters for Mexican or other points of origin below the Rio Grande. I suspect the Mexican Wix plant to provide most of the needs for most countries in Latin America.

I haven't seen any imported Wix oil filters personally, but all of the Wix fuel, cabin and air filters I've seen recently have been imported from China, Mexico, etc. I think Wix is buying more and more of their products from other companies and just slapping a Wix box around the thing.

I bought two AC Delcos for my car the other day and both say made in USA. My Nissan filters are made in Japan.

No manufacturer makes all the filters that they market. For a sales rep to walk into a vendor they have to cover it all. Re-branding (at least some) the competition's filters is common across all manufacturers. The other oddities that you typically see are foreign aid that others "earn" that is brokered through our government. It's to help balance books, so to speak. Does anyone really think there's some vital need to import fuel or other filters from far away Israel or Romania? We have ample 3rd world resources south of the border to do so if we wanted. These are economically strategic enterprises.

That seems to be a rather extraordinary claim. Do you have evidence to back it up?

just checked a new NAPA gold filter at NAPA today and it was made in North Carolina.

As far as outsourcing, capitalism, and greed go... when Uncle Sam decides to get HIS greedy fingers out of the pockets of American business, then we'll see jobs come back and prosperity resume. Until then, American companies will continue paying 1/3 to almost half of their revenue to govt & co. And outsourcing will continue unabated.

"American businesses, large and small and across all industries pay from 35% to 41.6% of their income in combined state and federal taxes. The 41.6% maximum rate is scheduled to rise to 46.2% in 2010 when President Obama's promised tax increases are implemented. Compare that to socialist France where companies pay only 34.4% in taxes, to China where the rate is 25%, or Russia which levies a mere 24%. Corporations in Ireland, Europe's fastest growing economy for the
last 18 years, pay just 12.5% in taxes."

hmmm...

Thanks for the link. I never knew that corporations
had to pay taxes on their revenue; seriously, I never
knew that.

It's a painfully apparent smack you in the face with a baseball bat reality.

Try importing XD-3 PAO lubricants. Try importing butter or milk products from the EU. You can do it, but it will be primarily in the form of Danish cookies or chocolate.

That notion "trade must be free" is only true in certain instances.

Well the part that really bothers me is the fact that they are made in Mexico to save money but I payed the same amount as I did for the same filter made in the USA

Yeah that bugs me as well. Look how much of the US auto and appliance industry has outsourced either entire production or component production. Yet the price remains the same as they pocket the extra profits while killing off good jobs. We just lost 700 jobs at Gates rubber here, and in my old town they axed almost 1000 jobs and are moving the plant to Juarez Mexico.

What part numbers are you talking about? Air filters? Fuel filters? Cabin filters? Cartridge filters?

For what application?

(imagine some obscure accent = area of country doesn't matter)

"I saw BIG FOOT when I picked up the WIX box and a chill came over me."

My bad, I was refering to oil filters, and the made in Mexico ones were 51334 and the made in Korea ones were 51378

Oddly, this is the first time (I think) at seeing the 51378. There are a few 22x1.5M filters. The first that comes to mind is the Ford FL820s - 51372 ..the next runner up was the GM 57060 ..which was followed, in step, with Chrysler 57899

Get used to it. If Wix doesn't move their production to a lower cost facility, their competition will, and charge less for the product. Either way, the business of producing in the USA is lost.
