Problem is that if it keeps up, the business of consuming in the USA will be a thing of the past also. This is how economies fail long term. They go from being producers, to consumers, to debtors, to Argentina a few years back.

Dana spun off all of the good stuff back when the real think tank types knew the gravy train was due for a crash in heavy manufacturing. They didn't want anything still viable being "attached" in the defaulting on pensions and whatnot. Wix was one such divestiture.

I feel bad for Gastonia. I don't know if there's any other employer there.

I had several 57073 that had "Made in Indonesia" and "made in Mexico" both stamped on it. They have since changed the can and now my socket doesn't fit on them anymore....and just "made in mexico" now. The price was $12 here.
Funny thing is, 57060 also works for my application, made in the USA, and is $8 here.

Just purchased 2 NAPA Gold (Wix) oil filters. One for my Subaru one for my Ford Ranger. Both say made in Gastonia on the cans.

Have a supply of NAPA Gold oil filters for my ,76 stroker 'vette, all made in Gastonia.

If we want manufacturing to stay in (or return to)the USA, one of the best things we can do is vote with our dollars. Not made in USA? No thanks, I'll pass. And then let the company know about your decision, and tell them you'll tell your friends to pass on the foreign made goods as well. Who knows, if enough people do this it just might bring some production back home.

I take lots of pride in American made goods, oil air and fuel filters included. 40 years ago, it wasn't even a question where oil filters were made. I want my money to stay in America, where my fellow Americans will benefit from my purchase, and hopefully use that money to support other Americans. It's more important now than ever, with so many Americans being out of work. My Dad worked in a factory when I was a kid, and lost his job in part due to outsourcing, so I know how important it is to keep buying American products.

Patriotism is more than waving flags and suppoting troops.
Buying American made goods when possible is a great way to show your Patriotism. Unless you are from another country, of course. In that case, I urge you to buy items made in your country to support your countrymen.

Sorry for the rant!

Thing is this:

Even if it says "Made In USA", the chances are it's an illegal, doin' the makin'.

Or, it might be a legal third-worlder, who will work for peanuts; putting traditional America headed for the soup line.

It IS going to get worse (and worse)...

The man has been soooooooooooo right!

I second this. If Mexicans don't have jobs in Mexico, they'll come here for them even if it has to be done illegally.

Now Made in China is a whole different story
