I was picking up some filters for a B6 Passat today and found this:

The oil filter was also made in Mexico. I thought Wix did all manufacturing in the US?

I'm not a huge fan of wix cartridge filters. Their gaskets have a hard time fitting properly. At least that's been the case here at work. For German vehicles we like to use oe , Mann or Mahle filters from Napa.

Wix produces good quality stuff. Just noticed that some of my air filters are made in Poland and some in the USA. All my oil filters are made in Mexico.

So thats the excuse to offshore jobs and paying first-world prices for third world made stuff?

Is Wix really that expensive? I thought they were on the cheaper side.

At least people get a choice. I'm stuck with expensive Mann/Hengst/Mahle stuff. No choice. $20 a pop.

Cost and price have no direct correlation.

That would make Mexico the 51st state

When a company must answer to impossible, instantaneous capital gains gratification, over-greedy, shareholder demands, yes, that is the case.

In the real world, price is most certainly directly correlated with cost.
There is no other reason that we see "Made in China" labels on so many products.
If third world produced products were priced the same as first world products, who would buy those produced in the third world?

Yep, just like the VW's built with precision craftsmanship in Mexico by Carlos, Jose, Hector and Paco.

The Mexican car is just as good as the German car...

I use Wix filters daily at work and they are made at different locations around the world, just like everybody else does. I have not had any trouble with cartridge filters sold by them for any application.

WHat's funny is that a third world country can produce first-world quality product without having unions, mandated company healthcare and regulation suck the profit off our US company CEOs.

Actually, it might just be.
The German made VAG products have not exactly covered themselves in glory over the past couple of decades.
