Wix filter price discrepancy 51358 51516?

Hi Have been using Mobil 1 and K&N filters with synthetic oil deals from autozone for my two cars.

K&N with the older 2005 ford taurus. Saw some oil sludge when changing oil last month. Secondary car and drove less than 5000 miles. So one oil and filter change per year.

Mobil 1 with 2007 nissan sentra, this year's oil changed looked fine.

Anyway, was looking at wix oil filters and can get it from local oreilly. My two cars would need 51358 and 51516 respectively. The prices are $ 12.99 and $6.29 respectively. Why is the 51516 so cheap?

51358 is same price as the mobil 1, should I just keep using mobil 1? Thanks for any input.

I don't know the price difference reason (if there is one) but you might look at the Napa Golds they are identical (made by Wix) and Napa has them sale quite often as well.

I don't remember O'Reilly ever having their Wix on sale.

For 12.99, I would go with Mobil 1. If you apply a discount code online at Advance Auto, you might get that price down lower.

Amazon lists the 51358 at $10.38, so you could save $2.50 by dealing with them. Free shipping for $25 or more.

Fleet filter or some other vendors can get the price lower, but you have to purchase a case.

the 51516 is a very common 3/4x16 filter that fits lots of everything, it was made for Ford's more so.
Think of how many Tempo's & Taurus's & 3.0L Rangers are out there?

the other filter is outrageously priced.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think it has to do with the depth of the base plate. I believe it's a sneeze deeper as spec'd by the mfgr.
As to why it costs more, I couldn't say.

I suspect the price difference is due mainly to the high number of motorcycle applications for the 51358. Everyone seems to charge way more for motorcycle filters.

Our Polaris Sportsman 500's use the 1358 filter as well, its deginated for a ton of ATV/Motorcycles let alone cars. For $12.99 I would go with the Mobil M1-108 or M1-110, thats what we are switching to...

The 51358 is just an expensive filter. For my G, I pay about $9. For the 51515 for my F-150, I pay $4.99. Interestingly enough, the previous model number that was speced for my G was a bit cheaper than the 51358, and the oversize for that superseded filter was cheaper yet, oddly enough.
