My last few trips to auto parts stores has left me wondering if the folks working the counters actually know they're selling parts for cars.
From personal experience, no, not really.
These days with more distractions and more folks doing jobs they have little to no experience with, I can imagine it's only gotten worse.

I know this is kind of unrelated, but my personal issues with WIX recently has been drainback. The valvetrain clattered a lot on my Grand Marquis and my Town Car with the 4.6L on cold startup. I ended up finding some Mobil-1 filters I had buried in my inventory and no more issues.

In my experience with the AP store counter jocks, not a requirement to get/hold the job. In fact, iirc some time ago there was one member here, relatively knowledgeable about oil and parts that was turned down for a position. My practice with AP stores, either order online for pick up, or know 'exactly' what I want/need before I go to the store. Save a lot of time and hassle. Their advice, just a polite conversation piece.

ah internet has bad info then?

At one time Microgard oil filters were Wix/(M&H) made oil filters. Have been Premium Guard made for a while now.

Its the only one with that p/n in the store .

I just bought another filter…..the standard version, so I still have the evidence. The guy at the counter was unable to comprehend the situation.
sounds like Advance Auto where my purchased 2005 battery having an 84 mo pro-rata warranty, told me warranty was expired in 2009. We joke about it? But these are real scenarios where people lack skills to perform a job.

Unfortunately, that is modern corporate retail. They want people that follow process, not independent thinkers making decisions based on skills and experience.

On the base there is 20 F stamped, which would stand for 20 mm fine thread. The other should say 20. I would think Wix would want to see it. Some other kind of application base plate was used.

It’s actually 2x the problem because somewhere out there is a different filter with your correct thread that’s also wrong for the car it’s supposed to fit.
