My parents had Dish Network on a two year contract.
Today was the 2 year anniversary date. This morning, I called to cancel their service for them (as I had set it up). Everything seemed to go fine, final bill, returning the equipment, blah, blah, blah. No mention of any issues. Thought I was done with it.
I get an email message from Dish tonight, stating that I'd cancelled the contract early, and that there would be a $20 early cancellation penalty.
I called in, to find out what had gone wrong. I get an Account Specialist on the phone, and ask him how I got this email message, with the notice of the $20 penalty.
This next part, I kid you not. He starts off telling me that it is because February only has 28 days, so my contact was a few days longer than 2 years, to make up for February being shorter than all of the other months.
At that point, I told him that he had to be kidding with an explanation like that, and I demanded a supervisor... and repeated it over and over. I do not tolerate my time and effort, being squandered by sheer idiocy like that.
He puts me on hold for about a minute and a half, then comes back, and tells me very quickly that the $20 penalty will automatically be credited back to may account, and that everything is fine, and that I shouldn't have received the email message and to simply delete it.
The only thing that I can figure out, is that I was the "lucky" incoming call to be pranked with the total Bee Ess explanation of "February only having 28 days". The problem is, that's about as unprofessional as it gets. But, we are talking about Dish Network. The bottom line is, I'll never use them again.
However, I still don't know how Dish Network figures that 2 years is something different than 2 years.
